i wander if anybody can help.
i started my D3 the other day and the steering was very stiff. the wheel jerky as you turn, with no hydraulic assistance.
i opened the bonnet, checked the belt. all good. i then checked the steering fluid. all good.
i am at a loss for the reason i have lost power steering. it must be something to do with the steering pump.
any information would be appreciated. today is like no other day!

thanks for the replies guys
i jacked up both front wheels to check the bearings. there was no excessive play.
just to add. about two months ago, i was driving slowly while turning the wheel, i heard a loud crack. stopped the car and checked everything underneath. could not find any problems.
one other thought i had, is there any electric switching or wiring involved in the power steering?
Adigorn any info you have on changing out pump would be good.
thanks again today is like no other day!

RR sport has speed related powersteering disco as far as i know pure mechanics
anyway if there is electric involved switch should beon the top of steering rack head
the pump has 3 bolts 2 easily accesed from front through pulley and nasty one at the back (hard to spot)
the esiest way would be remove egr (togethr with the cooler) to get some acces to extract it
the battery an battery box off as well
its good to open the litlle bolts holding turbo pipes to gain some flexibility around
long extension and the bolt should surrender
Good luck
