Lost communication with all terrain control module
So I’ve been getting the Special programs unavailable since I got my 07 Disco a few weeks ago and just had it scanned.
Comes up with U01 38-00 Lost communication with all terrain control module.
After fuses where do I need to start looking?
Any help would be greatly appreciated,

What did you scan with? I think you might need a more thorough diagnostic tool. Check brake light switch, and battery voltage is 12.7v or above.

So I have been living with this fault for 6 months now and with the weather upon us finally decided to properly look into this and got my self an iCarsoft diagnostic tool, after clearing all the old fault codes that were on there I was still left with this one U0138 Lost communication with all terrain control module.
I am going to get the battery out today and look at the 4x4 control module as I’ve heard that the connnections get corroded due to water ingress.
I also checked the battery with the key in the II position and it’s sat at 11.80V, the car starts fine on a cold morning but is this low enough to cause faults?
I’ll update when I see what the connectors are like on the control module.

"U" codes are information codes and can usually be disregarded. The systems often lose messages due to lots of things happening at the same (they require a response in a certain number of milliseconds).

I found the TSB LA418-003 a while back.
It deals with trying to workout problems from faultcodes.
Haven’t yet worked out how much use it is though, but worth reading and covers which of the U codes may actually represent a fault.

You should see around 15.0v on a cold engine at start up. This will drop back to about 14.5/7 whilst driving, and settle to about 13.7v at idle when warm. U codes refer to CAN BUS comms and usually rectify once the issue is resolved, so for the moment forget about them as they are likely a cascade due to low voltage. Check earths and battery cons, charge battery fully. You should see proper voltage readings as above. Those readings were taken with the engine off and just accessories on, I did think it was low. I had a look at the connectors on the 4x4 control module behind the battery box and they were fine, cleaned them off and I still have the fault.
I should have said earlier the problem I’m trying to fix is that I have the system fault ‘special programs unavailable’ and can not select the terrain response for snow etc on the centre console.
Fault code says lost communication with all terrain control module, so I’m working from there scratching my head as to where I go next.

What are the voltage readings with the engine at idle? Turn off all accessories!yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

So just tested it with the engine running and I’m getting 14 Volts or there abouts 13.9, is that too low?

If its warm and at idle that looks fine, next question is what are the readings whilst on the road?
By the way, are you reading codes from ALL the modules?yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

I checked them all and the only problem is the “Lost communication with all terrain control module” I’ll go back and see if I can have a look at the live data in other modules but I don’t know what I should be looking for. I’ve checked all fuses, I’ve been reading into the brake switch but I don’t think it’s that because my HDC works fine. All rear bulbs have been renewed.
I just want to be able select the terrain response but it’s not lit up it’s just dead and says special programs unavailable.

Solved!
So after a year of living with this fault that came with the car, finally bit the bullet and bought a replacement Terrain response control module (the center console bit with the knob) and finally got it sorted it!
Got all my special programs working and no more faults with the car...... for now at least!
