Lost Key

I have just lost one of my keys and paranoid that they will get into the wrong hands only to wake one morning to find the car gone. I have been in touch with the dealer to find out the cost of re-locking the whole car, which came out for the parts alone including 2 new blippers at £360, which wouldn't be unreasonable but you then have to get it all fitted and programmed with the final bill nudging £600.
At this stage I am loathed to go to that expense as I am pretty sure I might have put them somewhere around the house in an obscure place ( oh, the beauties of getting old) and I am almost convinced it will turn up.
Has anybody got any cheaper solutions that will make the car secure, until I find the key.

Put it in the garage... Park another car behind it on the drive..

Then search every square inch of the house again and hope you find it!

you could ask your LR dealer to 'unpair' the one key until you find it, I've no idea how much workshop time this would cost you though.

check the washing machine Shocked

I found wifey's car keys rolling around in the wash cycle when I walked past the machine and heard a strange scratching noise from inside.

It was the keys scraping against the glass door Big Cry

As for temporary add on security.

I bought my own wheel clamp when I used to park in central Leicester - put it on every day, and that kept my car from being a target.

The lost key can be de-registered from the vehicle without any problems, although it will still open the door using the emergency lock and turn in the steering lock it won't start the vehicle or be able to deactivate the alarm
Unless there was some form of ID on the keyring, how would any potential finder know which vehicle it belongs to?
