I've just read this thread from the start. I did the same when I bought my D3. I think asking the towball lock no keys question was one of my first posts. I didn't get any flack though. 8)
In the end my local indie told me what to do. Jarrod
Current : D3 2007 HSE - AKA the lemon

Not sure why all the cloak and dagger stuff was there to be honest. Remove your tow bar when you are finished with it and it won't get nicked!

I think 2 keys was about £9 and they are flat like normal keys and therefore fit in a key ring unlike those ridiculous orange things that come with the tow bar!

had the same problem, hoping this feed is alive
Gareth, please send me an e-mail with instruction on removing the locking mechanism for the tow hitch. I recently ordered a replacement. Like others, the keys were on the bumper and I went to the hardware store to pick up materials...the keys didn't make the trip back to home.

I was under the impression that was more expensive. How do you verify the exact key code or # you need to just replace the keys? Thanks for the reply!
Never mind I read above, it's on the lock itself. Now I just need to figure out where to buy the keys in the US.
