CAT removal
Hi all, I have done some searching and found a few threads on the D3 forum about CAT removal but nothing much on this forum.
It seems de-cat pipes are available for D3, but are they the same for a D4.
Would really like to hear from D4 owners who have lost the cat, pro's, con's - what effect if any on EGT, do the cat's give any trouble, what back pressure do they add to the exhaust system, any solid technical info would be much appreciated.
Thanks

I had the cat removed on my D4 - the exhaust shop just cut out a section of the metal pipe, drilled out the insides and welded back the opening.
A very noticeable reduction in turbo lag, very little increase in noise, a little more oomph when accelerating in third, especially at low speed.
I cannot comment on EGT, as I did not monitor, but the EGTs in my Puma were considerably reduced when I removed its cat, so it can only be the same on the D4.

Thanks Naks, I have been away for a few days so could not check the thread, I guess the overall response supports my earlier observation that CATs are not that much of a concern within the D4 community, but yes I think I will put it on the list and do it anyway.

The exhaust definitely smells a bit more when ticking over, but as above has freed up the engines breathing a very small amount.
Thanks for that, your pipe work looks great. I haven't found the replacement pipes advertised for D4's that are available for D3s so I guess more evidence supporting a low level of interest or concern about leaving them in place but I like your solution.MY13 D4 Nara Bronze HSE, Almond Interior, E-Diff, 20" for the road, 18" GOE for the fun stuff, Traxide, OL Bar, GAP IIDTool, Pioneer Tray, DAB+ LOGIC & ICE retro-fit, Vintage SAV Marchal Driving lights (weird I know but what can I say).......more to come

The part is listed as a DPF removal pipe - cheap on eBay - I advise ordering a new clamp for the forward end and new gasket for the rearward end. There are a lot of bosses/fittings on the new part for the cooling pipework of the DPF which I blanked off then it bolted straight up.
