England 2011 Discovery 4 3.0 SDV6 XS Auto Rimini RedDiscovery 4

Been running a ''19'' plate Jaguar F-Pace hire car (2lAWD) -- can't wait to get our D4 back. The F-Pace is neither a comfy car or a proper SUV OK masses of toys to play with but the ride is awful when in normal and spine shattering in Dynamic. To me a Jaguar is what Jeremy Clarkson described as ''Waftmatic'' and over two decades we ran several!! Sorry this F thingy is not deserving of the Jaguar badge. Big Cry

Oh well we should get Beadles prognosis tomorrow Shocked

Diagnosis came through today == snapped crankshaft! Warranty company refuse to pay as in their opinion it is an inherent fault and Land Rover should pay!!

Personally I do not car who pays I just want my D4 back! and dealer says minimum 3 weeks.

Sorry to hear if your tales of woe, this should never happen to a large capacity Diesel engine, they should be reliably capable of 200k miles.

Good luck with the claim, I just hope Land Rover’s goodwill pays 100 percent of your new engine claim. Hopefully they will let you have a loan car whilst they sort it out

Probably not what you want to hear, but that is the main reason I sold mine after the engine failed at just over 20k miles, fortunately I wasn’t towing the caravan, it was a nice day and it broke down slowly, although it stopped on the hard shoulder of the M5!

It took a month for the LR dealer to replace the engine, turbos etc. In the meantime I managed to get a Range Rover sport with a tow bar for the month, so our holiday etc was not too spoilt, but understood that after end of manufactures warranty it was down to 7 days under extended warranty but good will may be available.

I was told by the LR extended warranty that they do not cover crankshaft failure, and that LR would be asked to cover under goodwill. LRCS told me that they would look at favourable goodwill if you had a LR extended warranty and full LR dealer service history, but would not confirm in writing what favourable goodwill was!

So sadly it had to go, too much of a financial gamble for me, although apart from the engine it has been my favourite car.

Would love another one as it did everything you could wish for in a car, but not with the liability currently attached.

A goodwill gesture is normally dependent on having the vehicle purchased and maintained by a LR main dealer. Otherwise it’s simply an 8 year old car with low mileage and 5 years out of manufacturers warranty.

Secondly, known fault or not and who’s to say how or why it occurred, unless the warranty company wrote that specific item out of the insured parts, then it does appear to be flannel so they don’t get lumped with the bill. They should repair and if they think liability lies else where, chase that up themselves.

Land Rover extended warranty

As per original post

“it is a MY11 XS on extended LR warranty with only 42000 miles on clock - we have had the car since new”

Weyboat - the Land Rover Extended Warranty is a Third party offering not JLR.

IMO this is a good reason for going with Warranty Direct rather than take a Land Rover Extended Warranty.

As Peakwayfarer says if you have a LR extended warranty and full LR dealer service history JLR will make a contribution, up to 100% if you are lucky. There are many threads here on this subject.

Ted sad, but not unexpected news. Good luck with JLR; please keep us posted.

OK so have just spoken with JLR, the extended warrant company and Beadles of Sidcup -- JLR inform me they have authorised a 100% repair and a 100% car hire Mr. Green Beadles inform me that ''parts'' are on order and car should be back with me in two weeks.

I am also informed that the faulty part (crankshaft) has been modified and there should not be any problems in future - I do not know when this modification is valid from but I am sure someone will know Razz

Can't wait for the return of our D4 as the F-Pace I found not worthy of a Jaguar badge and to think I had been thinking of one as a replacement for the D4 next year Bow down I will have to do some research - perhaps a D5 ! A tad expensive and is it as good as the D4? Thumbs Up

I seem to recall reading on this forum that the modified crankshafts were fitted to MY2016 D4 cars onwards.
Also in the back of my mind something about Land Rover taking over the construction of the 3 litre engines from Ford.
Hopefully one of our LR Guru's will confirm (or deny) the above.

Fantastic Very Happy

This is why I spend my own money on their cars Thumbs Up

PS: If ultimate boot space and 7 seats aren’t vital, a two year old FFRR makes a lot of sense as a D4 replacement, especially if you want to keep a split tailgate and a fantastic view from the driver’s seat Very Happy
