Low power and high fuel consumption

Got D3 back from dealers on Friday - Park brake module replaced - after 2 weeks - then off to Lochgilphead on Sat morning

Towed the defender and trailer and the D3 was really struggling and swallowing fuel at a higher rate than normal - about 16mpg Took the car into local independent today to get them to fit a new brake pad wear sensor -( which main dealers ignored ) New sensor and pads fitted and test driven - When i picked up they asked if i had any issues - they noticed poor power and stuck the computer on to check for faults - Nothing showing - other than park brake fault - not cleared !!

Had the nearside EGR replaced in July and offside about 3- 4 months ago . All way home the power was crap and felt like it was gutless - stopped and re-started - back to normal - - went out again earlier and its back to lack of power-

I need to take back to main dealers - to challenge but as this seems similar to EGR failure - but any other reasons why this would not register fault on computer - . Warranty is getting near to end end and I want to ensure that I'm not fobbed off ?

When normal running getting 26-28 mpg - last time towing same set up avg - 21ish mpg -

Would a faulty EGR use additional fuel ?

Sounds like one or both EGR's

Don't bother getting replaced, get them blanked, makes a noticeable difference Thumbs Up

disco_steve,
As mav's D3 is 2008, it will at some stage show a fault if he blanks the EGRs.

It's the manual - which is causing the issues - an 06 plate - not the HSE one -

Blanking the EGR's might solve temp but whilst it's still warranty I want to at least get Land Rover to get it sorted.

ok,

let land rover sort it,if its EGR's they'll change them, then get them blanked off and you need never worry again once you go out of warranty! Mr. Green

Hi V40mav,
Thanks for the clarification.

I think dsd's suggestion is on the money.

Best Wishes,
Peter
