Low speed rear shunt
Morning, just after a little advice please.
Last night we were the front car in a 3 car collision, basically I had stopped for a car in front of me to turn right into a petrol station (they did indicate quite late) but I braked safely and within a good distance.
A vw golf directly behind me stopped also in good time
However a yaris ploughed into the rear of the golf which then was shunted into me,
The damage to the yaris was extensive and a witness travelling behind it stated that she had not braked at all before hitting the golf at around 30mph
My towbar took the full impact of the golf and was wondering what the thoughts were on damage to it as we tow a large twin axle van.
Would you call the dealers and arrange an inspection... I have reported all to my insurance company btw
Thanks in advance

Yes, but let your insurance handle it. You just don’t know what damage could have been done that isn’t visible.

Yes, get it inspected.
Although the Disco is built like a tank, one cannot see easily if any other parts of the car have deformed or bolt holes elongated etc as a result of the shunt.
Better to be safe than sorry and this should all be claimable against insurance anyway even if there is no damage, although I'd be surprised if there wasn't at least some paint damage on your rear bumper.

Do you have the heavy duty tow bar or the swan neck one?
As above, its always worth getting kit inspected after something outside of its normal use has happened.

Being the detachable I would definitely have it checked and may even suggest it should be replaced. The slot for it is very susceptible to corrosion and damage, as is the locking mechanism.

That’s good, but is your car now a cat c (or whatever the letter is) and worth less as a result? I suppose the 2k profit on the repair cancels that out. 👍

Can't believe they considered that to be a right off, was it just bumper damage or did it have much worse hidden behind?

Ah, I like this game.
My D3 after a shunt from behind:
And the Mondeo that hit it:
As you can see, the Mondeo came of far worse.
I was stationary waiting to turn right at a junction and the Ambulance mis-judged a gap in the traffic coming the other way when he overtook me.

Looking at these photos, they appear to ripple the rear 1/4 panel in exactly the same place. It must be a crumple zone.
