Seen it done on trucks - improves "burn" (a bit like nitrous injection) but not very common on cars. Cheaper to get the ECU remapped if its better performance you're after.

Ive had it fitted to a few older cars and landrovers i injected it before the turbo.
It does make a good difference when set up correctly but to be honest i think with the modern day engines and there control units its far easer and cost effective to remap the original ecu.

Diesel/LPG conversion
Hi Rugby Man
I had my D3 converted Dec 2006 to run on a mix of diesel/LPG.
So far I am delighted, the car seems quieter & more responsive, provided you do not
use the extra power for speed I believe more economical, others may disagree!
At around 70- 73 (cruise control) motorway driving I get 35-36mpg, around town 23-24, towing my
1700kg caravan to Scotland earlier in May returned 25.36mpg for the 1100 very wet miles we did.
My conversion was done by Skitom in Hull ( contact Dave) the company is nothing to do with me I
got the name from the net.
I brought the car from LR at Taunton & they continue to service it but not the the LPG side.
Hope this helps.

Hi Dellpitch
Do you have any more info on this? eg lpg tank size, location of tank - Cost (if you wouldn't mind), any effect on LR and warranty, dealer servicing (will they, as it has LPG on it).
We originally had been looking for a V8 with LPG, but had issues with dealer not letting lpg conversion into workshop and possible warranty issues - so ended up with Diesel
cheers

Diesel/LPG conversion
Hi Dave
Sorry I should have put more detail in my original reply.
Cost was approx. £2000.00. the lpg tank has been fitted where the spare wheel resides & is I think
77l capacity. I did not want to lose the 7 seat facility by having it fitted in the boot.
The painful part was that I then had a Matzker spare wheel carrier fitted to the rear chassis which
means that it has to be swung out of the way to open the rear tailgate, but you soon get use to that, cost approx £1200.00
Skitom (web site ecomix.co.uk) service the LPG system once a year. Taunton & Bristol LR dealers have not raised any query regarding servicing I just use Taunton because thats where the car came from, by the way it is a silver HSE.
Conversion was done at 20k it has got 42k on the clock & we are just about to tow the caravan around Europe for 4-5 weeks
so will have added a few more mile by the time we return.
Denmark last year was the only country that we found had very few LPG stations otherwise no worries, anyway no LPG
& its back to diesel.
Regards
Norman

How does the LPG affect road tax - or doesn't it? Also, what sort of mileage do you get from a tank full of diesel now with the mix compared to before the conversion?LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Hi
Have not done a full to empty check for a little while, the last one was in April when I got just over
500 miles with the LPG to diesel ratio at 36%.
I have today filled both tanks up & reset the trip & computer settings so will let you know, as well as recording the type of driving town, m/way etc.
LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Firstly let me correct one word that I have used, it is not a conversion as such, the correct term should be "fumigation".
There has been no major changes to the engine at all, unlike a petrol/LPG where the manifold is drilled to accept the LPG
injectors. In the system that has been fitted to my Disco LPG vapour is delivered to the engine using the fumigation method by electronic injectors placed on the LP side of the turbo charger.
Australia seems to have started the work & I believe that there the Gov. will give you a subsidy to have the change made.
Italy & now Turkey are also countries adopting the technology. It may have come later to cars but lorries have bee using the system a lot longer.
Draw back, where do you place the LPG tank, in my case it is fitted where the spare wheel was & I now have the spare mounted on a swing away carrier. Advantages to me, A quieter more responsive engine with either increase power or economy as I wish.
I am happy, Taunton LR dealer still services the car, no warranty problem as yet & if there was an engine problem Skitom
who's unit it is will warranty the engine if proved to be there fault, apparently never happened yet. Other benefits include a cleaner burn less pollution & approx a 15 - 20% fuel saving.
Hi Dellpitch, just trying to understand the savings here, so please don't think I'm criticising the conversion, just trying to understand.
On a run you're getting 35mpg and @ similar speeds I get about 31mpg. But I'm just paying for, say, £100 worth of diesel to get that level of economy, where as with this coversion, you are paying £100 for the tank full of diesel plus £40 (? I'm guessing) for the tank full of LPG, so how long does a tank of LPG last in relation to a tank of diesel?
Does that make sense? The surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us yet.
