I did a level 2 at Rockingham with Cliff, best of all the LRE courses IMO. You will drive a 110 Defender with no traction control etc. The day is all about self-recovery, ground reading skills etc. Brilliant day out and you will learn an awful lot.

Enjoy!

Ronp, do the L1 first, you'll get more out of the L2 if you do as they'll assume you know what they're talking about

I did my Level 2 in a 110 also but the TC had been disabled. When I got there they asked me for the date I did my Level 1 so they could check on their PC.

It's a good day but as Slimer said I'd do the Level 1 first.

slimer, woody 179...you really reckon the level 1 is not a waste of time & money??
If that's so, I'll take your advice and change my booking to level 1.
before i do so....anyone else any thoughts?

judging by the L1 DVD!!! I'd say as long as you know a mud rut from a snow, you'd be alright! Confused But I'm not the expert, if the L1 LRE course is anything as bad as the L1 LRE DVD, then I'd go straight for the L2 course. But I haven't been on the course so can't say for sure. I'm sure there's a few bods that would be able to tell you more.....?

I agree with Slimer you will get a lot more out of it the under standing of the vehicle and how it will handle .

The LRE1 day is a lot more involved than LR's free 1/2 day experience, they do teach you whats on the LRE level 1 DVD. In my opinion it is worth it as you get to understand how your vehicle works and its limits, they also teach you a little on how to determine the best route without damage to the enviroment or your vehicle (and you).

The LRE2 day picks up where level 1 finished teaching you more about reading the ground and the best route without damage to the enviroment or the vehicle (and you). They also disable HDC, ABS, TC (at least they did in my case) and you use a 110 for this level (I did ask about using a D3 but they said no).

Also they would not let me book for a Level 2 day without me telling them when I took level 1 - they checked this again on their computer when I arrived.

L1

I suppose L1 is worthwhile, particularly if you don't have much off roading experience. If you have, perhaps an L1 refresher would be ok. For the most part I found it not much of a challenge. It was fun, but not much of a challenge.

Good thread!

I have off roaded a few times but nothing too serious.

Thanks Thumbs Up
