Hi Ron
Yes we have that problem too which is why the grip starts to get scratched. I've found scrubbing the non slip surface with a hard broom and washing up liquid in water helps as it gets the dirt out from between the granules on the surface and makes it less smooth and helps them to climb up. It does get harder for them to do the angle with age though.

And just to start getting all the dog photos in one place, here's my current monster. Simply no room for another dog in there.

If anyone wants a really good telescopic ramp, that’s up to a lifetime of every day use, google “solvit” and “telescopic”.
Unfortunately, the prices seem to have gone up in inverse proportion to the decline in the value of sterling but it’s still going to be a lot better VFM than any of this stuff
It’s good to see that Land Rover realise that some people still want to use their cars for everyday practical stuff At least this stuff isn’t designed for their sky diving customers that want to raise their rear seats in mid air (you really couldn’t make that utter cobblers up!).
Hi
Have been looking at those , must admit don’t mind spending the extra if it means the dogs will be safe and not having to worry of a ramp failing with them in it

Try jet washing the grippy surface; it cleans it perfectly in seconds 👍2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Hi
Thks, That’s what I thought , would rather spend the money on something that will last , along with ensuring it’s safe for the dogs , want to mount the ramp sideways on the tailgate , as when I go to the park someone always decide to park close so wouldn’t be able to use the ramp straight out, that would be too easier
Just got to come up with a design to mount it all, plenty of tea, head scratching , then falling asleep in the shed with all the thinking

Red Merle & Gary_P - does the Solvit ramp just sit on the tailgate lip when the dogs are using it or have you got it tied down in some way?
If it just sits on the lowered tailgate I assume it is secure enough when they walk up and down?Uncle Ray's spare wheel protector

Re: Solvit ramp.....we too have one (purchased for Sophie - a then ageing GT now long gone) and ended up gluing a length of bedroom (pink*) carpet along the full length of both upper and lower sections of the "non-slip" surface. There was just enough clearance between the upper and lower sections to allow smooth operation.
New GT (Nellie) refusing to use it as yet and still insists on being lifted in and out. Just as well she is petite (for a GT that is).
*Luckily, we have only had bitches!

Ianm27: The top end of the ramp has a 2” section that is bent slightly so that it sits flat upon the rear dumper or tailgate. This is completely stable and doesn’t need to be either tied down or held.2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Hi
As Red Merle says it has a largish lip that lays flat on the tailgate. It’s at an angle that means that when the ramp is set up it provides plenty of support.
The dogs won’t just use it. We got ours used to it by the following method. This might take three or so sessions.
Lay the ramp on the ground (unextended at first) and let the dog (on a lead so you can direct them) walk over it. Anyway they want at first them try to lead them along the length. Then extend it and get them to walk along. Eventually they will walk along the length.
Elevate the end a little so when they walk along, they are climbing up (brick height at first, then a bit more). Again you can do this unextended at first then extended.
Gradually heighten the ramp end so they are climbing at a greater angle. They can jump of the end.
Try on the car . Might not get all the way up before jumping off at first. You can put a treat in the car tos entice them, and indeed treats work on any/all of these steps.
Good luckGary

Hi Red Merle
Yes Irish Wolfhound in Wheaten colour. All 98kg of him. Really hurts when he stands on yer toe.
Never had a dog that doesn’t play before. His only game is to run at you at full whack and veer off at the last second!

That’s a great tip from Red Merle regarding starting from a way back. Works much better if you have the room. Unfortunately my boy stops at the bottom then it’s a scramble to get up, hence the severe scratching on the surface.Gary
