LR and society classes ?
Hi,
I don't know if this topic is a kind of "tabu" so please excuse my ignorance:
my question is related to the intresting topic of the old "society classes" of UK and if there is some correlation to the cars which are socially acceptable for each classes
- can worker buy and drive OK brand new Range ?
- what is the best LR for academic intellectuels ?
- is Range the righty for SIR's
- to which class does Disco 3 belong mainly to ?
- to which social class Ferrari Enzo is acceptable ?
-- too many modifications made to my Disco 3 to be listed in here --

Its a bit like this:
Three Men on Class
Cleese........Barker........Corbett ---(order on Photo)
Cleese: I look down on him (Indicates Barker) because I am upper-class.
Barker: I look up to him (Cleese) because he is upper-class; but I look down on him (Corbett) because he is lower-class. I am middle-class
Corbett: I know my place. I look up to them both. But I don't look up to him (Barker) as much as I look up to him (Cleese), because he has got innate breeding.
Cleese: I have got innate breeding, but I have not got any money. So sometimes I look up (bends knees, does so) to him (Barker).
Barker: I still look up to him (Cleese) because although I have money, I am vulgar. But I am not as vulgar as him (Corbett) so I still look down on him (Corbett).
Corbett: I know my place. I look up to them both; but while I am poor, I am honest, industrious and trustworthy. Had I the inclination, I could look down on them. But I don't.
Barker: We all know our place, but what do we get out of it?
Cleese: I get a feeling of superiority over them.
Barker: I get a feeling of inferiority from him, (Cleese), but a feeling of superiority over him (Corbett).
Corbett: I get a pain in the back of my neck.21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I love the sketch
Looking at www.bbc.co.uk this morning, there was a link to a survey: Have your say - Are you middle class? and the picture below the link looked very much like a RRS to me. I haven't been able to find the picture again this evening but the link to the survey is http://newsforums.bbc.co.uk/nol/thread.jsp...0505213842

The D3 is an interesting beastie in this case - it is quite clearly everything and more that a RRS is. Its as big and comfy as an FFRR (ignore what VA says) and more capable in the mud.Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Yes, I heard Radio 4 this morning, they were talking about class in the UK today. I said to my Butler, as he was ironing The Times, that I didn't believe that class plays such an important roll in a modern society, it's all about money now.21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I reckon a Land Rover driver is class-less. You see everybody from workmen towing large trailers, to Royalty, all driving Land Rovers.
I believe I am working-middle class. I work for a living, and live comfortably as a result.
I suppose that means a Working class person works and does not live comfortably, and a Middle class does not work, but still lives comfortably
Define Upper Class -

Though not directly related - I found a website a few months ago where you could punch in your annual earnings and it would tell you in what top X percent of the UK earners you fell in. Trouble is I've lost the link! Anyone see this and still have the link?Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Pelyma the perception is correct, the genuine 'upper class' tend to value 'estate' rather than monetary wealth and incidental possesions. They are usually very pleasant eccentric's who know no better than what they have been born into. The statement 'a class of their own' is so true here !
The so-called 'Upper-Middle' class can be the worst - they are in a state of flux and usually take out this unpleasantness on the middle and working classes.
There is a view that Middle and working classes are blurred today - they are just 2 ends of the spectrum. Some would say that if you have to work for a living then you are working class and that's it - many would disagree.
Of course we could always follow the communist path....one cow, one house and one disco3 each. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
