LR want £650 for new key and KVM

OK So looking for some help folks and any other solutions than LR saying I need a new key and KVM. I have one key that works fine and the other is the correct key but does not connect? New Varta battery added by LR so not the battery. That little visit cost me £74 to tell me I need to fork out another £650, I read that LR had made this type of request difficult for the customer as they have made no option to add additional keys is this correct? If I bought a IID machine would it then make any difference as LR could not programme the key?

I think it’s to stop the thieving scroats from programming another key whilst it’s parked on the drive.

There is still the possibility of programming a key IF you know the KVM firmware part no's, but realistically, it's a new KVM and keys

Mikey

Would it be possible to buy a KVM + keys from a breaker and install them in a different car?

Pass...

I expect it would be a no-go, as the BCM is also involved in key programming...

A second hand KVM + keys + BCM + ECU + Clocks would work but you would introduce mileage and probably many more errors.

I’d be having another word with LR about this. It’s only just out of warranty!

I had exactly the same when we lost a key. Was told that a new KVM module would be needed but they would try to programme the key to the old module first. When all done had nice surprise as it came to £160 from memory for key and programming which had worked to the old module

Have you got key insurance on your household policy??? If so claim on that

LR want £650 for new key and KVM

Hi folks bought the Disco second hand dealer not franchise, he will go half's on the cost of the key programming which would have been £150 shared but then then LR said it wont programme and would need complete new key and KVM at the £700

so not sure where I stand with Disco just out of warranty as I did not have any LR warranty? I do have additional warranty but I would need to see if this covers electronics and I would guess it wont? I am tempted to save up for the IID tool but also maybe contact them first to see if mine is covered?

When I bought our MY12 it only had one key fob which while it worked was damaged externally. I purchased to replacement key fobs off eBay (they look genuine and say Range Rover on them, I went for the RR style, but I doubt they are) and the GAP IID Tool. It was quick and easy to program the two new fobs and now all three work perfectly.

I had exactly the same conversation with LR after I fried my key in the sea. I purchased a new key on eBay and got the blade cut as my original key was the old style and the old blade doesn't fit the new key.

After taking the new key into LR they said that they couldn't talk to the KVM and it would need a new one.

I did some research and opted to go the IId route.

New key programmed and I have a IId - job done Thumbs Up
