LR3 dies when turning ignition key

Intermittent problem... when I enter the vehicle interior lights and dash light up normally, but as soon as I turn the ignition key all goes dead. Starts up normally after several retries. Battery is fully charged and fairly new. Battery wires look good. iiDTool found this code:

B1A87-68 (2F) Battery disconnection/electronic control unit reset - Algorithm based failure - event information

Is this a known issue? Any ideas?

I'd start with checking the earth leads to engine from body these can corrode and eventually snap also make sure your battery connectors are not worn. A simple test for the earth leads is put a jumper cable directly from the earth terminal to the engine block it this solves the problem poor earthing is the fault.

This is not an exhaustive list other problems could also be poor starter, immobiliser issues etc

Thanks, I refreshed the ground to body connections and the negative battery cable 2 years ago. I'll try the jumper test and recheck the grounds. I also think I'll start bringing the spare key fob with me and see if it works when the other doesn't.

Thanks for the tips. I couldn't find any info on testing the ignition switch, but I did find the positive battery cable terminal had worn. The conical washer system only tightens the top of the terminal. which allowed the bottom of the terminal to loosen up. Filing the gap wider helped tighten it a little but not enough. In the end I shimmed between the cable terminal and the battery post.

I'll keep it home for a few days and keep starting it till I'm satisfied this was the problem. If so I'll order a new positive cable terminal... part#YQE500310
