Not wanting to insult you but I was just wondering how your dab receiver is connected to the antenna?

Yes its connected to both L Band (roof pod) and the Band 3 aerial that is shared with the FM antenna on passenger side.

Because the FM/AM radio is shutdown the shared amp is not getting any power hence the reason I think that the DAB module cannot get reception.

The L Band as a signal source operating at (1452–1492 MHz), is usually quite poor because it tends to be 'line of sight' to transmitter whereas Band 3 on (174–240 MHz) tends to be the one that is used by the receiver. Hence the thoughts that the band 3 antenna is the most important?

Sounds like you have it covered.

The dabIII amp on the passenger side will be powered by the iam by the looks of things.

I am assuming the stud was already on the rear quarter window?

Yes, the base system that I had used these aerials and that worked ok.

Thanks,

Germany 2010 LR4 5.0 V8 HSE Auto Zermatt SilverLR4

Hi,

you wrote, that it's a LR4 - so I think it is an NAS/US reimported car (like mine)?

The US cars have another radio receiver for sirius digital radio and a different antenna module on the roof - I bought also the DAB receiver, which was recognized, but the antenna signal gave errors and there was no reception.

I decided to cancel the DAB project because of the additional costs for the antenna and even because of the bad DAB coverage in Germany (they move to DAB+) and I only use the "normal" radio module in the front - which has in the US cars no antenna cable to the rear. I put my own cable from front middle console to the back...

EDIT: My car is a MY2010 - in an other thread I read, that yours is a MY2012 - so the entertainment system ist completely different. Surprised

Greetings

Hi gseum,

Understand what you are saying about the Sirius system and Antenna configuration, which is the same spec as per Landrover Topix description/spec, but not as per my own retro-fit.

However, mine is a UK base model from local Landrover dealers and OEM spec had base IHU fed from L Band and Band 3 antenna. In the UK the band 3 frequency is the old analogue TV band that was shut down a few years ago and tends to be the one used for DAB transmission, Band L being in UHF region and really 'line of sight'.

In the electronics industry though, the more logical choice now is DAB+ (as you point out Germany has moved to) which for some reason the UK DTI do not support?? Rolling Eyes

This method of transmission/encoding and recovery is far superior to DAB but in the UK we seem to be happy with this at the moment, guess things will change when everyone else does it but us, hmm?? Shocked

After a lot of wasted time with SPA and multimeter I have found my DAB problem is simply down the L Band/Band 3 pre amp module which no longer outputs the correct voltages to the respective Band L and Band 3 antenna amplifiers. The L Bnad was all ok for PSU feed to antenna and RF but the Band 3 had no PSU voltage and RF was blocked (due to faulty RF input stage).

Its not worth time on the bench fixing, so have a new DAB module on order and its going to be a 'swap out'

Cheers,

Jack

As "screensaver" on the lcd screen, there is a Land-rover logo or a discovery in the woods. Is there a possibillity to ad personal pictures? I have the IID-tool from Brittparts

D4 13MY onwards infotainment systems support DAB+ ...but as you say this is not in use in the UK yet.

You would have thought that Landrover would have fitted the earlier D4 with the DAB+ Rolling Eyes also as it is backwards compatable with DAB and allows for future use of DAB+.

Mind you the way they structure the 'extras' when purchasing I reckon they make more money from that than the basic vehicle...... Whistle
