Major oil leak... suspect turbo failure |
|
Hi all, after a bit of advise...
My disco 4 had done 110000 miles and last week decided to leave a big oil patch on my drive! checked the level and needed to add 3.5lt of oil! so i booked it into may local land rover specialist who had it yesterday and today as was also due a service... had the dreaded call today telling me they suspect the turbo is knackerd and the oil leak is due to the turbo filling the intercooler hoses etc causing it to leak from all the intake pipes etc...
Has anyone had this before? as it hasn't missed a beat and pulls like a train and there is no noticeable smoke at all when i was using it... don't want to spend a fortune changing turbos if its not necessary... not had a price off garage yet as there making a few enquires, but they said another option is they could clean all the hoses so i could p/x it

Which turbo do they think is faulty, primary or secondary? Do you tend to drive it gently therefore oil builds up in the pipework of the secondary turbo as it not being used. There is a fix for this which replaces the oil drain pipe from the secondary turbo with a modified pipe. We did this on my mates D4 which cured his problems, however yours does sound a little more major but you never know. Stu

Don’t know which turbo to be honest, but I drive it pretty hard most of the time as got a heavy right foot so doubt it’s that
