I have my eye on the ASFIR rear gear and rear diff skidplates at £95 and £84 respectively. Are there any alternatives to these?
I have read comments regarding the exposed threads and agree any impact stresses will focus on these weakpoints but believe there is a possible workaround. I was thinking of adding a small block of aluminium billet drilled to accept the bolt, sandwiched between insertion rubber or neoprene to mitigate some of the shear transference without risking damage to the vehicle itself. Can't see it doing any harm anyway!
All thoughts or alternatives considered.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Have you any pictures of these as I may be interested.Arctic Frost Discovery 3 TDV6 SE, Active Rear Diff, Adaptive Head Lights, Tow Pack, Ebony Leather, Roof Rails, Mantec Guard. Tasmod Stainless Sill plates. Grabber AT's. Home made mud flaps. Side Steps back on until the next time.
Charlo has a link to his own website towards the bottom of that page, which shows a Mantec front protector and the two mid/rear protectors I'm interested in. The ASFIR front plate doesn't have a hole for your recovery point or additional venting so I'm more than happy to go with the Mantec front plate, but they don't offer protection further aft than that.[/img]I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Well I've ordered the ASFIR rear diff and rear gear protectors, hastened by the tales of damage from the Lakes weekend!!!! I'll take some pics of them before, during and after fitting once the Mantec plate has turned up from the group buy (as this needs to be fitted before mounting the ASFIR parts).
Also got some bow shackles and an 8m 14t Duplex recovery strop coming I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
A while ago I wrote an article on my blog about some Discovery 3 underbody protection that mentions some alternatives (with some pictures) to the ASFIR protection: http://bals.be/discovery3-underbody-protection
I personally did not make a decision yet... (neither did my wife...)
That's the front shield, but I'm going to use the Mantec shield instead. A couple of other guys on here have done this too, combining the Mantec front shield with the ASFIR rear ones.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

It does make sense to protect the rear if we apply the same logic for getting the mantec plates...
Please post some oics once you fit the rear ones. It will be interesting to see how they fit with the Mantec in the front.nothing yet.
Sadly they are on back-order with TBRUK and I'm unlikely to get them until the back end of March, too late for Salisbury but I'll still be fitting them and will take pics when I do. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
ASFIR diff and gearbox plates have arrived from TBR in Deutschland
I aim to fit these at the weekend and will take some pics as I do it. I don't currently have net access at home, so it may be a week or two before I can post them here, but I'll do it asap.
First thoughts are that these are pretty darn substantial and a match for the build quality of the Mantec front plate I already have fitted. Looking good...... I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Here is a picture of the Discotech Rear Diff-Exhaust Guard. (pre production model) This is being developed at a place close to me. We have carried out trials and the guard has proved to be very successful. The guard will be available for sale in the next few weeks, I would imagine the price to be about £160 but this has yet to be confirmed.

In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.
Ooooh, more bits to bolt on 8) I take it this replaces the shoddy (and torn) piece of Japanese Alloy (plastic) that currently protects the spare wheel?
At this rate my car is going to end up looking like something out of RobotWars. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
