Yep but £1500 is par for the course for any decent auto box across the industry.

You'll get approx £5-750 extra @trade in time, and just think about the savings on the joints on the left hand side of your body.Especially if you are snarled in traffic most of the time like the rest of the country.

OK if you off road a lot, but if you're worried about 2-3 mpg on a car like this maybe you'd be better buying a 7 seat MPV, and a Fiat Panda 4x4 or Defender 90 for playing off road at the weekend for the same money.

I have auto, and reckon that it is the best auto box on the market. I have driven lots of auto cars over the years, and none have come close to this one.

Off road it is great, I personally can't see the disadvantage over manual, in fact I think certain situations with delicate requirements suit the auto, the only situation I can think of where the auto was not good was descending a short steep drop, the car overtook the HDC and the engine braking and as a result, I scraped the underside of the front bumper, a manual in 1st low would have been under more control.

For towing the caravan then it has to be auto, its so easy. Command shift gives you an over-ride when necessary, but for reversing, auto makes it simple.

As a driver of a manual, the only situations I can see where an auto would be a disadvantage would be offroading in a high ambient temperature or in the unlikely event of stalling it on a hill climb and the torque converter 'winding up' , thereby confusing the electronics, albeit until a reboot.... that and the MPG penalty. Otherwise it's a 50/50 choice... me? I wish I had one of both Wink
