There's a plastic part at the base of the gearstick that can break up, AFAIR it's not obvious until the gearstick is removed so worth checking The End

sorry for the delay but ive been tied up.
basically the interlock had broken, i was told that it stops you going in to two gears at the wrong time or something like that.
It is unbelievably rare and they dont know of it ever happening to anyone before. Aren't i the lucky one!
Get this Land Rover do not list any replacement gearbox parts - only an exchange gearbox at about £1700. Anyway my landy specialist sent it to a gearbox place in Nottingham I think who had connections at ZF and they managed to replace just the offending part.
But what amazes me that when they took it out they said it had not actually broken it was just bent and they said that someone had hit the gearlever really hard to bend it, like a kid climbing around in the car.
However my feeble wife was the only person in the car at the time and just engaged (or tried to) engage reverse gear. I have however noticed that you do have to push it quite hard to get it into reverse.
To cut a long story short it took 6 weeks to repair and cost £1850 with the vat and a new clutch and a new fly wheel, so all in all it wasn't too bad as initially I was quoted about £3k.
Good luck, i can give you my land over guys number if you want to discuss the problem with him, as he now has some experience.
