Spoken to my mate again this morning, he is going to try and get me the contact details for the guys. I suggested that they might be interested in coming along to Hogmoor as there will be loads of D3 owners (i.e. potential customers) there and word would soon spread on here when everyone saw it.
He's going to see what he can do, but he's only an IT guy and not involved with the editorial side of things. He doesn't even own a Land Rover - stupid Audi TT driver Hopefully he can get me some contact details though.D3 HSE MY05 Auto

Dave, not too sure on the mechanics of it all, but I think (and everyone will correct me if I'm wrong) that the EPB has a big spring in it that means when the brake is disengaged the motor pulls the shoes away from the drum. i.e. the opposite way to the way that a drum brake would normally work. I was only discussing this with Andy yesterday. I think that it is like this so that if the motorfails the brake is applied rather than having it fail and loosing the brakes. That said you wouldn't want the motor to fail at 70mph on the motorway and have the brakes applied!
Anyone confirm that this is correct? If it is then I would assume this is why they are using the discs, or maybe it's because the disc can be cleaned easily whereas inside the drum is a pain and I guess you could still get the brake binding on - so no advantage. These are only my random thoughts at the moment. I'm trying to get more info!D3 HSE MY05 Auto

have you got any links to article or something Andy?
Hi gresiul, no articles yet I'm afraid, although I believe they're working on a write up for the next issue of the mag.
Stu's right, I think what they've done is to adapt the disc brake caliper to add a manual cable pull. The existing drum brake mechanism can be disconnected and even completely removed to avoid the unwanted lockups.Andy
Crumbs!
that's a co-incidence.
Was only waffling about hand brakes the other day to my man in the trade.
Pictures to follow soon.

The exsisting handbrake doesn't use a heavy spring, it is the motor that winds the cables on & off.
The handbrake shoes inside the discs are basically the same as normal mechanical types of similar design.

Alas, no. IMHO, it's a poo frill that should never have made it into production. Fair pollo, as our Italian friends have it.Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana

Ok got a bit more info and a picture from my mate. Apparently it's only a test rig at the moment so it doesn't replace the EPB - but the real version will.
Here is a picture of it:
I've got the contact details for the product manager and I've dropped him an email to see what he says.D3 HSE MY05 Auto
