Just for the record.
Landrover Discovery 3, January 2005, 27,000miles
1. Compressor failure – Replaced
2. Faulty seat heat adjuster, seat frame replaced
3. Various warning light problems.
4. Suspension and park brake amber warning lights, (water ingress to the blue multiplug behind the N/S/F wheelarch liner
5. Air bag warning light.
6. Radio/CD locked out, frozen.
7. Water coolant low warning light, sensor replaced.
8. Squeal from rear brakes on reversing.
9. Radio/CD locked out (again). The radio staying on all the time, but with no sound, caused the battery to flatten over a weekend.
No more landrover products for me, my Freelander had a similar list of problems including needing a new engine at 5000 miles.
More faults that all the previous non-LR vehicles I have owned put together, you do get fed up returning to the dealer.
While all the faults have been fixed under warranty, it could become very expensive once the warranty runs out.

I have an 06 V8 SE and the ONLY thing that has gone wrong in 16K is the "bonnet open" sensor crapped out when I tried to open the hood in -4 degrees F. Other than that, replaced the tires because the stock ones are junk, but the new NITTOS are fabulous.
But I really love this thing, it can do anything, like driving a swiss army knife.

22,500 miles, 16 months old.
Brake sensor fault....fixed no problem
Just noticed (probably because I dont use it) cruise control cuts out after varying the speed with the buttons. Resets after reboot...going to speak to dealer
I have a friend at work who recently bought a used 05 HSE...not sure of the mileage but his problems...
Leaking sunroof - fixed but still leaking
Damp floor...don't know if that's connected to above problem
Command shift doesn't work when the lights are on
CDs won't load into the CD unit
Key won't always come out of the ingnition
Cruise control cuts out after varying the speed with the buttons (which is why I checked mine)
And I convinced him to buy a D3...because they are so reliable!!!

The key not coming out easily, is usually caused by gear selector lever not quite in 'park', Try pushing lever fwd a bit more when turning and pulling key out.

18000 kms in 9 months ; only relatively minor problems :
The fellows at Sollihul forgot to install the GPS antenna, so the dealer had to place a new middle stop light, since it is glued (had to destroy the first one to get at the GPS receiver).
Broken door lock - replaced under warranty
Juddering, noisy wipers (as in most disco's?) - I read on this site it needs a twist, i'll give it a try
Several (weekly) bongs with " transmission fault - HDC not available " messages : disapears after resetting (engine off-and- on again) : LR manual says : something to do with the rear differential - dealer says : "don't worry, be happy" ---(By the way : does anyone has a solution for this problem ? Suggestions???)
However, in short : no MAJOR problems (yet?) - Splendid car, but could use more power (TDiesel)

This one needs sorting. It should not do this. Has your dealer tried to fix the problem or fobbed you off? If so, find another dealer!

I have checked the "rap" sheet I asked for when I bought it (LR approved '05) and it seems that in 35,000 miles it has only had the necessary software upgrades and compuslory TSB's. Certainly doesn't seem to be too much wrong with it. I have done 5K in it now without any warning lights (the odd strange boing but no lights) ....it is also my first LR without wet carpets 8)
All the buttons i have used so far work as well......there are however a few patches of surface rust appearing underneath which I need to get sorted.......
oh and one of the middle row seats rattles slightly when there is no one sitting on it which is mildly annoying but will get adjusted end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......

Re: how many problems ... in how many miles |

Mine is an April 2005 model, and have a propshaft replaced at 22000 miles, suspension compressor replaced at 69000 miles, must admit I use it for what it is intended for and whenever I fill up with fuel (three times a week at least) the attendant is always advising of car wash availability, however if the suspension starts to give me problems we will be parting company as I had loads of grief with a range rover with similar faults. very expensive beast when out of warranty. Other than that outstanding vehicle and I have had mercedes and bmw off roaders before this and the d3 blows them into the weeds. 70,000 MILES AND COUNTING
