How many sets of pads to your discs?
I am trying to gauge whether or not I have been stiched up by my Stealer, I was told on purchase that the discs and pads had plenty of life left in them. I know I should have had them checked there and then but the car was so shiny and new looking I just wanted to get in and go
I have just had a call from JLC in London where its in for various recalls, telling me that the car has brand new pads on very worn discs!
He also tells me this is not the best practise.
I have only done 2500 miles in her in 6 months would you front the stealer and try to negotiate something

I just changed my disks for the first time a few weeks ago, fronts had had 2 replacement sets of pads (25k & 43k )and rears had 1 replacement sets of pads. (25k)
Front disks were worn to replacment point really, but rear disks could have gone on for another set of pads.
I changed them all anyway as I had them there.
I've just done 54,000 miles.
Not sure if that helps, although if the disks are way lower than they recommend, woiuld go back to the supplying dealer to ask why they didn't change the disks too!Bodsys Brake Bible

Bodsy thats really helpful, can I just ask are you mainly long journeys (you must be if you got 50k out of your front discs) and I am guessing you dont tow frequently either
Its just that mine will be due for change well before 30k, but thats a fair bit of round town driving.

I do about 18k a year, varying from a lot of 10-30 mile countryside/town trips to the occassional 100-300 mile trip, most journeys are not motorway, but probably accumulated mileage is about 40% motorway. I do tow occassionally, but you are right, I don't tow a lot.
It's not unheard of to need the disks changing earlier, particlarly if a previous owner didn't change the pads in time previously. Bodsys Brake Bible

The dealer that I got mine from also put new pads on very worn discs - I have red him the riot act as there was lots of heat and brake dust as the pads were trying to bed into a worn disc.
Going back to him next week so he can put new discs on and I suspect an argument about another new set of pads as the new old ones will not be very good for the new discs I suspect.
Gonna try and get him to change the fluid as well - though it didn't actually boil, it couldn't have been far away.

(anyone wanting theirs changed who is diy shy in the south west area, pm me, and I'll see what I can do to help 8) )Never get mad - get even !!

According to one of the braking industry focus group we belong to the industry standard is two sets of pads per disc, although they all admit it depends on driving style, car type and pad/disc material.
