Memory Map & Tom Tom
Any way I can run my tomtom (Go 720) with Memory Map data?? I wouldn't need routing, only as a map viewer for hols in France.

Nope - the TomTom software does not work with MM as far as I know. Buy and download the Western Europe map for the TomTom, its not that expensive and will also include the latest UK mapping

Thought that would be the case, might have to use QV4 to see if I can convert.
I bought a second hand PDA from flea bay a Dell Axim 51v and I loaded it up with TT & Memory Map and it works great. got the Dell for £100.00 with extras.

Had thought of that but my toy budget is a bit limited at the moment. I get the standard "what do you need that for" from Mrs DSL. When I mentioned the MM maps of S France for £100 she told me we'll get a £6 map when we get there. Paper maps, that is so last centuary!

Paper maps still have that great advantage of being able to see the whole area and allow for some good planning - especially if your on holiday.
Upgrade the TomTom map and buy a good Michelin road atlas.
The France Atlas Routier et Touristique is great

TomTom has Fr but I fancy viewing 1:25k maps as we drive along! Never mind, Mrs DSL is quite a good navigator if she stays awake!

Use the TomTom to take you places and the Michelin map to seek out things while you drive
The amount of times we were off somewhere and 'She Who Had The Map' kept changing plans / routes was mind boggling and a tad annoying
Just go to Mr TomTom and enter and new Travel Via location. Job Done.

GPX Files & TomTom
DSL, I'm not familiar with TomToms.
But if you create a route or track in MM.
Then Open Props (Crt-O), Go to select Track (Or Route) make sure this new one (it will be called Track or Route) is the only visible one (ticked) (and make sure none of the other properties are ticked or these will get exported as well).
Then use Export Visible and save it as a .gpx file (GPS Interchange format).
Then you should be able to import this to your TomTom.Discovery 3 XS Auto, Stornaway, Active rear diff.

I have tried this a few times and it don't work with my TT910, TT is set to snap to the nearest roads so if you are trying to use it off road it gets totally confused.
What does work well on the TT with GPs files is Offroader you can grab this free from pocketgps website, this works on & off road.

I got my ipaq for sale on ebay.
it's loaded with Anquet maps for UK [others can be bought].
you just need a small gps receiver[£20] which I sold on.
and you get gps 'real time' on map
