Best off doing a continuity test from the mic end to the back of the radio
red wire at mic end ..pin 2 on radio
black wire at mic end ..pin 4 on radio
I was getting my service finished today at an independent so I asked them to have a look at the problem with the bluetooth (when I call a person using BT I could hear them but they could not hear me). They checked the wire in the A pillar drivers side & said they found a problem so replaced a section of the RED wire (is the drivers side the correct side as I thought I read another post stating it was the passenger side). However I am now worse off as the bluetooth is still not working & now my voice recognition is not working at all ! i.e. when I press the voice recognition button nothing happens at all… no beep or NO ‘no speech detected’. At least before the fix I got the ‘no speech detected’ error.
Any suggestions on what has gone wrong ?
I may get a friend of mine who is an electrician to have a look at it so if any one can supply the following it would be much appreciated:
- Instructions for getting at back of stereo.
- Wiring diagram for any cables between mic. & stereo / Sat Nav.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Wiggs,
Have you any idea why replacing a section of the red cable caused the voice activation button to stop working ?
Thanks,

Hi Wiggs,
Sorry for so many questions but does running the 2 new cables from the mic to the radio involve taking apart much of the car interior (as I assume my mate would not know how to do this) ?
When I get this fixed I will be looking to purchase your Bluetooth module upgrade as when my bluetooth was working it drove me mad inputting the 2121 code every time I got into the car !
Thanks,

light cluster at the front just pulls down ( from the edge nearest the windscreen )
A pillar trim has one torx screw hidden behind the airbag logo .
Trim round the stereo ...grab at the very bottom ( either side ) and pull towards the gearstick .
Radio ..4 torx screws ..but you need to loosen of the 2 above ( switch panel ..which has the hazzard light button ) and the ones on the heater unit below G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Is there a way of testing whether or not a LR microphone is working correctly for those of us without a nav screen to test it?
I guess the easiest way is to briefly install it in another car with PTI and try it out? Are there other ways? Will a multimeter tell me anything?

I’ve seen this advice on many many threads about the same thing, but can I just check how this works when you’ve got the PTI(?) feature too? As I understand it, at some point there is a splice which sends the mic signal to the nav unit and the stereo. If I just run a new cable from mic to stereo will I lose this functionality? I’d assume as neither work, that the cable is damaged beyond the splice. (I’ve seen the wiring diagrams, but they don’t show the physical location of that join do they?)
Thank you,
Alex
