I stand corrected Embarassed

We used to have signs like this

at the entrance to our motorways, it seems they have all been removed, presumably slow vehicles are now allowed on our M-ways

Just to add fuel to the fire ISTR in Europe HGV's are not allowed in the 2nd lane of a 2 lane motorway, except during certain hours 22.00 to 06.00, therfore it avoices the 56.00001 scenario.

Yes I agree TSR, there are some very poor drivers around. I think that drivers in general have become much more aggresive in their driving styles.

I have found that driving a Discovery has changed my style. I did used to be much more aggresive driver than I am now. These days, I am quite happy to keep my distance and stay out of lane 2 and 3 as much as possible.

It helps the fuel consumption too.

Think yourself luck guys........

I've just been out on the largest trunk road we have (A90) and I'm 60miles north of the nearest (2-lane) motorway. One truck doing 50.001mph pulled out to overtake another doing 50mph. 4 MILES later and we are still in a queue behind the truck in the outside lane Evil or Very Mad

At least we don't have any CLODs here as there are no CLs Big Cry

Me too Thumbs Up
I think the commanding view, which enables you to anticipate the traffic ahead, smoothness of delivery and the fact that I'm not so desperate to get out the car, makes me a far more relaxed and considerate driver than when tailgating with the reps.

But you can still be booked for driving too slowly on a motorway.
Think it's driving with undue care or consideration.

There is no minimum speed limit ...but you can be charged with careless driving for going too slowly Wink

Hobgoblins identity has now been revealed!!! Shocked

Wink

BTW, I also remember the old sign ( Embarassed ), and whilst it suggested there should be no slow moving vehicles, the 50kph bit was a definition of 'slow moving' rather than a minimum speed.

Saw Hobgoblins mention of www.middlelanemorons.com and ordered a window sticker. No sticker received or response to my 2 Emails. Is it a con or just hopeless? Anyone know?

Us truck drivers CAN be prosecuted for careless driving if we can not preform an overtake within a given time. Its down to the HGV you are overtaking really, he really should if 1-2mph slower come off limiter and let you through. But they never do, so the better driver does'nt go for the overtake.

I get annoyed with the limiter speed though. 56mph in the uk is the agreed speed, although we can go upto 60mph and still be legal, but I am limited to 58mph and get them all whizzing past me till they get to a hill, I am in favour of the standard rule of 56mph, and a ban on lane 2 during peak periods.

What also give me the raving hump is the restrictions of HGV's in London. We have the south circular, and North Circular. We can use these whenever we want, deviate from this route before 7am or after 8pm and its a 5k fine for the firm and £350 for the driver. You can get a permit that allows you into London earlier by only 30 mins and must be a direct route.........Why cant the allow trucks in say at 5am, to be at the destination by 7am, therefore out of the way in rush hour...................................

Rant over Thumbs Up
