Missing locking wheel nut key - help

I've had my D3 for a month or so now after buying it from a member here, when I collected it he couldn't find the locking wheel nut key but promised to look for it and post it on

Well guess what, still no locking wheel nut key!

So, before I start smacking sockets over the top, or welding big nuts onto the locking nuts, can anyone identify the below locking wheel nut

I don't think it's an original LR one as its an internal design rather than an external one

Now fortunately they are only fitted to the front axle, and I've got a set of geniune LR locking nuts to replace them once I've got them off

I have found many tyre fitters have a variety of keys and I would start there.

They also have a lot of experience in removing locking wheel nuts if they don't have keys, so again I would rely on them.

IMHO the LR locking nuts are a real pain; I certainly wouldn't bother with them, simply fit ordinary nuts.

Good luck, keep us posted.

Second that. Thumbs Up

Get down your local tyre bay, they'll get them off and as NJSS said, don't bother with the LR replacements because they'll turn to chocolate before Christmas. Rolling Eyes

Ordinary nuts all the way. Thumbs Up

I bought some irwin removers from screwfix and got all 4 of my lockers off after a dealership lost my key.

They were also internal keys like the one shown above.

A decet local tyre fitter will get them off but don't bother putting the locking nuts on. Just use ordinary nuts. Thumbs Up

Hi Rob, sorry i did say when and if i could find it. The garage was just emptied last night but never came across it. Sorry. Use a set of bolt extractors or take it to a decent garage.

Cheers,
Steve

I took mine to a local dealer and got a replacement. It wasn't expensive, I think less than a tenner or thereabout.

As above, loose yer lockers before they fail. The tea leafs find it far, far easier to nick the spare from underneath than off the hubs.

Thanks for all the advice guys - and Steve for looking for the missing key

Guess this is as good a time to pick myself up a set of irwin removers, which would be handy in the workshop anyone, and get them off

There's reason I was wanting to keep the lockers is because Steve upgraded it to Compomotives and Cooper St maxx which I'd rather keep hold of

And I've already removed the spare myself before anyone else does!

Just thought I'd give an update on this problem

I got them off relatively easily - a good sharp chisel and brut force was applied and once I'd managed to crack them back they both unscrewed just fine.

So that times perfectly for a wheel bearing change tomorrow
