Mods complete for the Alps - FBH and split charge todo...
Hi everyone,
I just wanted to share some pics of what I've done to my D4 especially after getting so much help and advice from everyone on the forum... I appreciate its not everyones cup of tea but with the limited funds i had to hand I cant complain
The story so far... I manage the British Ski & Snowboard Cross programs and spend 6 months of the year (1st Oct to 31st Mar) living and travelling around the European Alps with the British teams training and competing. As you can imagine my vehicle has to handle what the Alps throw at it and usually this is lots of snow and very cold temps....
About 6 weeks ago i bought a 2011 LR Discovery 4 HSE... Mods so far (pretty much in order / as my confidence grew):-
1) Privacy tints (I didnt do these )
2) Lighter sockets permanently live
3) Electric gate switch (nothing special - just attcehd to dash board)
4) 2 x mobile phone mounts for driver & passenger
After purchasing IID tool....
5) Upgraded from standard multi function steering wheel to Heated wheel and added paddle shifts.
6) Enabled timed climate and osme other stuff i cant remember right now...
7) Dropped from 20" to 19" Disco 3 HSE wheel with General Grabber AT 3's
8) Installed roof rack
9) Attached LED light bar to roof rack - mounted switch near to the bluetooth microphone.
10) Installed cubby fridge.
11) Side steps
What I have left to do:-
12) Install split charge system
13) Install Altox FBH
14) Install Lazer ST4 spots with mounts from pro speed
Anywho, images below, thank you to everyone who helped out - I used the forum a lot from aorund 2007-2009 when i had my disco 3 but have loved comming back again

Nice mate.
Worth updating your IPC with the IID tool. Gives the central instrument cluster a slightly fresher look. Really easy to do as well!

Good question. It's the IPC flash that's required, but I did mine a while ago, and can't fully remember.
I will have a look tomorrow with the IID and see if I can jog my memory

Like those black wheels.
Is there someone on here that refurbs wheels for a reasonable price? I have a set of those in silver which could do with a bit of tlc!

Did you consider snow tyres or will you use chains/socks when on snow?

Looks quite nice
if you’re in sub zero temperatures you might want to read the following thread: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic124936.html and decide whether it applies to you. It certainly applies in Scandinavia.
I know some people who change the hood piece to an identical looking one, only difference being that the “winter one” doesn’t have the perforations the regular one has. No idea about LR part number either, sorry, or whether it is a country specific mod someone here did for a bunch of cars.
In any case you can make one in your own, too, as the thread and bulletin advises.

@Gazellio - I have always used snow tyres previously (been doing it for about 10 yrs now) and this time have gone for the General Grabber AT3's - to be hoinest its great having the opportunity to keep one set pf tyres on all year round instead of changing them over all the time. The AT3's are mud & snow and carry the snowflake/mountain so should be fine in the snow. I will also have a set of chains in car for when its really icy / im following a plough up the mountain lol.
@kajtzu - Thanks for that - ill have a look at the article.
