MOT Advisories. Really?

Was just wondering if anyone else has had joke advisories on a Discovery 3?
On the last MOT advisories were issued stating that rear offside seatbelt was twisted (6 year old daughter had left it facing the wrong way round. I turned it back so it was pointing the right way)
Rear seats were missing.(I showed the mechanic how to pop them up)
I have had other silly advisories along these lines, but the point is that these ridiculous pieces of advice are printed on the MOT for all to see if it were to come to selling.
I haven't had such daft advisories on any other make of vehicle I have owned so it makes me wonder if the average MOT guy just doesn't really understand Land rovers or the the disco? Shocked

Sorry, rant over Sad

If I got one saying "rear seats missing", I'd be doing three things - refusing to pay for it ; asking for a new one to be issued by an MOT tester who *hadn't* been blinded by some unfortunate accident ; and reporting the testing station to the DfT, as they clearly aren't competent.

My favourite 'Advisory' was on my much loved Freelander.

It said 'loud knocking and rattle from nearside front suspension/steering'

This was after a road test following a brake pipe replacement.

I don't know where she got it from, but my daughter had placed a golf ball in the (empty) glove box. Sure enough, it knocked and rattled. I don't even play golf and wouldn't have dreamed of checking the glovebox before an MOT lol

You got to wonder about these 'Professionals'

Confused

On my other car : rubber mount at the top of the mc phearson strut worn,I replaced it and there was nothing wrong with the mount, however the drop links were worn and I replaced these,no mention of this on the advisories.Over the years I have come to the opinion that some testers have an eye on the extra work they can obtain when doing the test.

The one and only thing that matters is did it pass? if so move and on and dont worry about such trivial things.

We have pretty much the same here. I used to have a (naive) view that mandatory annual car inspection is a good thing and they’re there for road safety.

Things they’ve missed so far (last December) on my D3:

- seized caliper piston. The guy said “left side brakes with a little less force than the right, still well within guidelines”
- rear lower carrier arms bushes shot, clunking

Things they noticed:

- one of the rear license plate lights dark

Whistle

I've had it a few times now whereby clear lenses over orange bulb indicators have been marked as 'faded' Rolling Eyes

On my son's Mondeo this moved between sides over the years, despite no bulb changes or work on the lamps Laughing

Replacing parts that are not worn are hardly trivial, all wasted time and money in my opinion.

I think they love putting as much as they can down to justify the annual test.

"look how many faults we found, can't possibly go out to 4-2-2" as was discussed a few years back Confused

My latest one shows "rust on sills" when in reality it's rust on the tree/rock sliders which are protecting the sills...

Yeah they were getting fussy with the rear ones, if they started to get near white.

Worried about blinding/dazzling people.

These are standard fit OE items fitted to a million cars............

it's like an updated version of the old joke;

switch your indicators on

they're orange

no they're not

they're orange

no they're not.....

problem is on certain brands of bulbs, when they are 10 years old, the orange paint cracks and then the bits start to flake off.

It's then no longer orange and if disturbed will be white!

Yeah, paint must grow back on the years the bulb was ok but disappear now and again the years it was deemed an advisory Rolling Eyes
