Moving to Callington, Cornwall |
|
Guys,
I have just got myself a new job which means I'm moving myself and my family back down to the West country in the next few months.
At the moment I'm in Portsmouth and just started to look for a D3. I have been to the local Land Rover dealer in Portsmouth who seem really helpful and wanting to find a D3 to my spec.
My question is should I look for a D3 in Devon/Cornwall or should I stay with the dealer in Portsmouth?

I have had a good service from Ryders in Truro for both sales (Katie Warren) and from their service department.

Me too.
I bought my D3 there, and the sales service was great. (Katie again).

Roger Youngs in Saltash are very good (well the little I have needed them they have been good) and just down the road from Callington.
I would check prices though as I have been looking for an MX5 as a commuting car (wife has stolen the D3) and they are cheaper in the South East than they are in Cornwall.
We moved to Menheniot (well near it in the middle of nowhere) 6 months ago. Unfortunately I still haven't found a job down there so have to go back and forth every week.

I lived in Callington for a couple of years in the mid 80's. I always pass by when down that way. It has been built up a bit with wider country lanes than when I lived there.

I live in Plymouth. Looked around for a D3 at a good price - didn't want to pay main dealer prices - bought one private from a guy in Swindon. Cheaper and having met him etc. could see how the vehicle had been treated. That was over a year ago now. Roger Young have been used for the servo recall and to buy new land rover badges. Fitted a new compressor also. Good service, posh showroom etc - but at a cost for your 'free' coffee! I would look around for a private sale where you are at present. Benny

Thanks guys for all your replys.
What I'm after is awell looked after D3 06-onwards HSE in gray. I want leather but not black (unless the car is stunning)
i'm after a tow bar and full service history.
I'm sure it can't be that hard to find

I grew up in Callington, on the Broadmead estate which was brand new when we moved there in 1968. Went to school at Callington Primary and my mum was a teacher there. Not been back since 1991.
Another vote for Ryders /Katie. Was trying to do a deal on a FFRR with her a while back. Couldn't have been more helpful and a really genuine lady.
TBH though, finding the right car is not easy. I tend to use the LR site to start with as it will find you a few matches and you can pick and choose then. Most dealers will exchange stock with others as well so you can usually get the car you want from your preferred dealer.
Plenty on here knock Stratstones but I don't have problems with them. The are the largest retail group in Europe now so they have massive amounts of stock to choose from. Quite a good website as well for searching.

i got a quote from Roger Young for a front diff. Cheaper than any independent I could find (these were all in the south east as I can't find any in south east Cornwall apart from one who refuses to go near anything newer than 2005).
They actually convinced me to try an oil change in the diff to see if it helped, which I thought was very unusual and refreshing for a workshop to convince me not to spend loads of money.
One day I may actually get the diff changed.
