Anybody got a realistic MPG for an automatic tdv6 2.7 towing in the region of 2.5 tonnes on A and B class roads,at the moment I am getting in the region of 19-20 on 15 mile journeys ,is this to be expected or a sign of other issues

No I didn’t buy it for economy,I have had these beasts on and off since 2005 but never really used them to tow and how well do they tow , I have to be careful as you can actually forget it’s got all that weight on the back,it’s quiete amazing really but 4x4 drive, torquey Diesel engine and air suspension do deliver an amazing tow vehicle, the only caviat is you are reminded of the mass behind you when you brake ,maybe a V8 conversion in the Spring will improve things ?

Depends on the aerodynamics of your trailer too. I tow slightly lighter trailers, 1.5 - 2.5t most of the time, and my long term average over the past 80,000 miles is 24.9mpg. This is taken from actual fuel bought and miles covered, rather than the hopelessly optimistic lieometer read out.
New gearbox & TC, 3 x front wheel bearings, belts changed, new oil pump, new battery, new rear prop, new front prop, new front diff, front arb refurbed, front cv boot kit, egr blank and BAS software patch, full rear suspension / drivelive rebuild, new front arms, LED trailer light fix, split charge.
Never had a 107, 90 or 127, but have had most of the rest!

If your trailer brakes are working correctly then it does almost all its own braking so there is very little required from the Discovery.

If your trailer slams onto the car under braking then the trailer's brakes ain't right Thumbs Up

The trailer an “Ifor Williams” box trailer gets serviced once a year ,can’t risk VOSA doing a stop and holding me for hours ,if you have a good service history to view and the unit looks tidy they normally are ok with you ,I just think because they are heavy well built trailers you feel it on the back when you stop plus my journeys tend to be along A and B class roads so a lot more braking than just cruising on the motorway ,plus we carry a fair amount of weight in the car itself ,I am going to get an infrared thermometer to check the brake temperatures after a run just to double check
