I would say that the work you put your D3 through isn't that different, assuming that wasn't the sea you were camping by as salt would of course be far more corrosive than mud.
You might not know but LRE veichles are auctioned off by LR to dealerships at about 6 months of age. I feel they will have had a harder life than most.
The pay and play venues in the UK would have areas with thick mud like in your photos, but also many technical areas and deep water. My off roading takes place in pursuit of my hobbies I would not treat the land in the way to create such mud holes and would certainly not drive greenlanes, which can be very challenging, in very muddy conditions for environmental reasons. I hope this helps explain the differences of what we do. As you are no doubt aware some are off to Morrocco later this year in their D3s which I would say is pretty extreme.
For me using film to prevent bramble scratches is a good idea although not fool proof for the times that areas do not turn out to be how one expected. Now if I could cover the underneath in cling film I 'd be onto a winner DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

I do indeed love more the technical off-roading than just mud diving
and indeed, that was mainly what I wanted to point out, you don't protect your DIII with just a film...
and for the morocco trip....

Off road
A view from the south (not Kent)...
I can't fault any of the views here. However, my 64 cents... use the D3 for the purpose intended. If you wanted to off road, do so. If you want style in the city, why not? The vehicle is perfectly capable of both, not so? 8)
But I for one would rather drive around a mud hole is D3 than go through it; I would stop to snip a tiny branch rather than scratch the paint. I do not consider myself wealthy enough to do otherwise.
However, I hope to be climbing mountains, gently, and driving many kilometres on sand and gravel.
But if I was forced to do the really rough business, so be it - but I'm not going to look for it because I'm sure it's going to find me anyway.
Bad roads (forget the driving) damage vehicles, even Unimogs. It is because of this fact that many guys have second (usually older and cheaper) vehicles for the technical club events etc.
I once drove from Yorkshire to South Africa in a 1600cc kombi (two-wheel drive ) - proof that proper overlanding or off-roading, cautiously applied, can cross continents. Point is you don't need to traverse the almost impossible to reach your destination. A big mud hole is fun, and that's how it should be seen. If you can afford to knacker up your car, do so. 8)
So far as the cling film is concerned, there are many expensive 4x4s down these parts and a good number do the serious stuff, the latest adventurers heading for Angola, Western Zambia and Northern Mozambique. And I can tell you many of them are as concerned about bodywork damage (or any other damage) as the regulars on this forum.
Protection is a big industry. And one product involves fairly substantial plastic covers for side panels of all typres of 4x4. They are attached to doors and the like with magnets - much like a fridge I guess. Just looked through a couple of mags to find the supplier, but can't immediately find him. Should anyone be seriously interested, nudge me and I'll try to dig out the company over the weekend. It's probably an Aussie product anyway.Must look at it from the bright side...

Oops, forgot to add...
Great pictures Penguin. And that's exactly how I like to camp. Mind you, don't fancy getting my off-road caravan bogged when the tide's coming in. How do you find the D3 pulls the trailer in soft sand?Must look at it from the bright side...

Thanks
It was on Corsica, mediterian see, so none or almost no tiding (checked it first as well)
It was hard to get there, but then I forgot to switch to sand and turn of the DSC
I'm rebuilding the trailer now, and hope to test it in the sand at our annual club meetingIn a time of chimpanzees, I was a penguin.

Living on the coast I can tell you the atmosphere is very salty as is the sand without getting in the drink and washing it off would be even more difficult than mud. That is why the vegitation differs in a maritime environment to that a mile or so in land.DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone
