As far as I know there is no auto mute for anything other than the mobile phone.
If you are reversing and want to hear the beeps you have to remember to turn down the volume.
I may be wrong

I think the OFF button is 'only' a MUTE: The reaction time when operated is to short to assume that the entire system was completely down...

Thanks all
I will use the On/Off button it's better to put off, it's quicker and doesn't change the volume level.
I had such a command on all my previous cars but it's not a problem the On/Off button is easy to reach Rolling Eyes

Try pressing and holding the mode botton on the steering wheel for a couple of seconds, it will activate the AUX mode.

This might be what I need. I like to drive around with the radio in mute but ready to pop to life with traffic messages. As there isn't an actual radio mute selection I was a bit niggled but thanks for this tip.

It's early so I may be wrong but Aux, will change from radio to errr aux so not the greatest solution. I would suggest setting TA and then reducing the volume. TA's will then be announced at your prefered "set" volume.

I thought that traffic announcements would come up even when cd or aux was selected. The problem with just turning the radio volume down is the way the D3 audio is set up. As I understand it, you set the TA to be a certain number of units above the audio volume - lets say 5 units, so if you have the radio on at 15 units, the TA will come up at 20 units. The trouble is that if you have the radio turned down to zero, the TA will then come up at 5 so you probably won't hear it. If you set the TA difference to, say 15 then if you were listening to the radio at 15 a TA would come up at 30 and blow your mind - and possibly your speakers.

All my previous cars have allowed you to set an absolute volume for TAs so whatever you were listening to the radio at, even down to zero, the TA would come up at the preset TA volume.

Am I right or have I got the D3 radio completely wrong?

Had a look in the manual and it seems like my understanding of the volume setup is right. Also, the manual implies that TAs will over-ride radio and CD but not aux. Anyone know any more about this?

Stuart,

Its on page 287 of my manual.

"To access the information volume setting offset, press the tone button for approx 5 secs until the AVC LEVEL setting is displayed. Repeatedly press the tone button to scroll through menu until INFO VOL OFFSET is displayed. Rotate volume control to increase or decrease"

Ian.

Tyke65 is correct. It's infuriating. About as hopeless as the Nav, which takes you places you never knew you wanted to go...
