considering a HSE purchase
Hi,
Been reading the forum, great by the way, and I am considering buying a D4 HSE 2013 with 52K on the clock. It will be from a dealer so should be good on the warranty front.
Bit nervous about the mileage. I had wanted something with 20-30K on but the budget won't stretch to that at the moment. Off course I could wait and save up a few more pennies. Would you guys be concerned about buying with 52K on the clock assuming of course the condition of the vehicle was good? I am aware of the belts/major service at I think 7yrs or 70K from memory.
Thanks

^Here are the service intervals. Belts would be 7 yrs or 105k.
If you scout around on the site the core theme on buying is condition and service history, not stamps but invoices. Also getting someone who knows their way around a car would be preferable.
Warranty is always peace of mind too.
If it's a good one would have no hesitation with age or mileage.
I bought my D3 with 111k on it 2007 D3 TDV6 XS - GONE

Just be aware that LR Extended Warranty (or whatever it's real name is and is provided by Car Care Plan, not LR) have decided if the engine goes bang its not their problem as it's a known fault. Then you are in the lap of the gods with getting "good will" coverage for that by LRCS.
on the other hand ... there are 1000's of D3s and 4s out there who haven't had a failed engine..

Sorry about that but it is truely appalling that they are not covering engines, truely appalling. £18k for a new engine, that's way beyond the value of many of the D4 out there, plus a bill that owners shouldn't have to pick up. It's a complete lottery as to whether the engine will go, and an even bigger lottery as to whether LRCS will help.
Having had my D3 suffer an early demise due to a poor engine, I obviously hope the D4 won't do the same. If it does it'll be the last LR I'll own after 21 LRs over 29 years.

Having had 2 plates of SWMBO's best lasagne, no room for either. Just a fair bit of 🍷. I blame the latter.
Oh, and SWMBO has told me off for being so cynical. Forget what I said, all is well with the world of LR. Honest.

Hi, re: the belts query, it should be:
Discovery 3 2.7 TDV6 - 105k or every 7 years.
Discovery 4 2.7 TDV6 - 105k or every 7 years.
Discovery 4 3.0 TDV6 - 112k or every 7 years.
So, for the vehicle you're looking at, its a while off 2016 D4 SDV6 Landmark (Gone)
2013 D4 SDV6 HSE Lux (Gone)
2011 D4 SDV6 HSE (Gone)
2008 D3 HSE (Gone)

Do you need an HSE, can’t say I’ve missed anything an HSE has, then you could get newer or lower mileageJoined the BMWX5 45e group

Thanks all for the replies. Didn't realise about the engine failure that might be excluded from the warranty.
Dave T, do I need a HSE spec, well perhaps not but I do like the leather (feels a bit better could be my imagination), I want a reversing camera and I also like the light on the sun roofs. So small stuff I guess but I take your point about miles vs spec.

Its all about what compromise you are prepared to make, I couldn't afford new HSE so I had to decide new Graphite or year or two old HSE, for me the longer LR warranty is king!
All depends what compromise you are willing to make, older/more toys or newer/less toysJoined the BMWX5 45e group

Hi BSP01,
My warranty is long gone and my engine is 161.000km...working as day one or even better now!
As someone said above, it's a lottery but in this game winning is easier than losing judging by the thousands of D3S and D4s running on the roads.
Funnily enough, the "small stuff" i would miss the most in a non HSE model is the driver's seat armrest!
Good luck with your future D4!

All good advice thanks. I think I will try and push a bit more money even it means waiting a bit longer as I really fancy a HSE.
