My2013 D4 oil

Hi All.

Just pick up my 2013 D4, and will be doing a big trip part way round Aust. Asked the service manager where I purchased the D4 about oil that should go into if I require to top it up, he informed me that I can not buy the oil over the counter, but would not have to do any topping up between services,, new car will use oil. Does anyone know.

In the UK it's listed as:

5W-30
WSS-M2C934B or ACEA C1
Fully synthetic

(Low SAPS - DPF)

When I first got the D4 I didn't find it easy to get hold of... not even from LR dealers! Ended up going to Jag dealers to find Castrol SLX Professional Powerflow C1 5W-30 as they've been using it longer. Getting easier to find it at LR dealers now.

I think the 3 main makes available here are:

Castrol SLX Professional Powerflow C1 5W-30
Shell Helix Diesel Ultra AF-L 5W-30 Fully Synthetic Low SAPS
Mobil Super 3000 Formula C1 5W-30

Having said all of that - I've only needed to top up once at about 2500 miles from new. After that it seems to make it between services just fine. Thumbs Up

My car has just had it's first scheduled service (1year / 16000 miles) and didn't need any oil top-up from new.

Castrol SLX Professional Powerflow C1 5W-30 has apparently been superseded, it's now Castrol Edge Professional C1 5W-30

Liqui Moly do a compatible oil, also. I found it here in Germany and found it to be surprisingly good value at less than £26 for 5 litres. Looking on the internet, it's also available in Auz. It's the Top Tech 4500.

Been using it for a year and it's fine. (Although I haven't exactly used much of it, as the car uses very little oil).

Don't quite understand why we need a low SAPS oil in Australia as the LR Australian spec doesn't include the diesel particulate filter. Low SAPS is specifically to protect the DPF, beats me. (My 2011 3 litre TDV6 RRS sport definitely doesn't have one)
