Thanks again everyone.
LR are fixing the transmission problem and then I'm taking it to my Toyota indépendant just up the road for the brakes and gearbox sump.
Of the £1150 it includes 6h30 labour at about £850 - the folly of owning an LR outside of the UK?

Don't forget there is nobody within 60 miles of me with LR diagnostics that isn't a LR franchise so I had to go there for the gearbox issues - lucky I did if it means the brakes get spotted and sorted. Indépendant is half the labour rate so about £650 for the job. That Euro rate sucks huh Rolling Eyes

Cheers

That’s good news your getting it done and a bit cheaper, out of interest if you don’t mind me enquiring, how much is it just for the repairs to the braking system
Cheers

That cost is just the brakes.

Gearbox is £900 and sump is £1000.

No choice with transmission but indépendant will roughly halve the brakes and sump job.

That's the prob with earning in GBP but living in eurozone just now but nobody forced me Big Cry

Was thinking of ordering bits for brakes and sump that were shown to me on other thread - not sure what I should order for brakes from those links on previous page. Is it just the brake kit at £108 or is there any other stuff. Indie always happy for me to provide the bits and there's more £££ to be saved Question

IIRC the AF brake kit includes all the bespoke parts.
To replace the rear steel pipe section with copper just needs normal copper pipe and connectors.

I got this kit from the Bay:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/25ft-COPPER-BRA...2080226543

but any indie is likely to have all the normal brake pipe and parts anyway.

I used this tool for the joins under the car.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HAND-HELD-BRAKE...2300935795
It produced nice looking flares, even on the steel pipes in situ.

The £1150 quote may include body off which I think is the LR dealer solution. Previous owner had it done on my D3 at one of the London LR main dealer back in 2014 and got a bill for £1130 (all pipes and flexies).

Local indie replaced brake pipes today as well as the other jobs that needed doing.

Total cost including full brake pipe kit from Advanced Factors was approximately £450. Huge saving on the LR quote which definitely did not involve body off.... when I asked about that the LR service manager told me it would take 20 hours to remove the body as they had only ever done 1.... see what I’m up against Laughing

(Parts from Advanced Factors arrive in 3 days each time I have ordered - my only stop from now on for D3 and Defender bits Thumbs Up )
