Have been having some trouble with my exisiting (original 4 year old) battery over the winter so looking to replace it. I've done a bit of looking round and this one:
From Halfords (easy option I know!) seems to be fairly decent and good value. Any views as to whether it will be up to the job as a replacement?
I notice my exisiting battery is rated at 825 amps whereas this one is 830 amps .... I'm guessing this won't be a probem?
Thanks for any help .... batteries confuse the hell out of me
Oooops ... apologies ... should have added it's a D3 TDV6 HSE with all the trimmings on a 55 plate.

Not the cheapest, but (as you say) cold cranking is rated at 830amps instead of 825amps ~ this is how much juice it'll supply to turn the engine over so more is better. Close enough as to be inseparable IMHO.
Total capacity is better at 100Ah instead of 90Ah too.
Lower specs, but at that price you can replace it in half the time and not lose out....
(or buy your Varta silver cheaper from HERE )
edit: just noticed the Halfords offering was a Bosch silver )

Equicar4x4 had brand new RRS TDV8 batteries in stock last month, £71 delivered.
No guarantee, but as the original battery lasted 4-5 years I don't think you'd need it unless you got a real duff battery.
I wouldn't buy a battery that is 25% underpowered, the D3 is sensitive to electrical issues already.2014 D4 XS

or you can get a new battery (the new part number, not the old ones that have been dumped by LR) from your stealer for £104. 3 year guarantee and latest battery from LR for £30 extra is a no brainer for me. Especially considereing if your battery doesn't play you aren't going anywhere!

Don`t fit ANYTHING other than the LR battery, they are now rated at 950 amps. So many problems related to battery it`s not worth cutting any corners.

OK most folks here (in the UK) aren't starting in -16c or promised 50cm of snow between now and close of play Friday but for £30 it's just not worth penny pinching. Getting HDC failure warnings on SWMBO's car, battery is only 12 months old (warranty died with the 3 year LR warranty) so will change it, not worth the hassle of a duff battery.

I'm with DSl and 4tech, not because I know anything about LR's yet, but I bought a replacement Halfords last year that was rubbish - only lasted one winter.d4 HSE

Sounds like my Halfrauds tyre pump that they wouldn't replace because I hadn't got the receipt. Where the else would I have bought a yellow tyre pump with their name on it? s
Sorry, yes batteries. Buying an LR one sounds good. Especially with Nick's discount! They need to have a vent hose connection too, to stop the nasty vapour from corroding things.

Unfortunately couldn't get mine from Nick, he didn't fancy a 600 mile trip for a cuppa but any car over 3 years old quallies for LR Alligence discount, brought the price down to £104 incl VAT. New part no is LR018605, YG (or is it YU??) batts have been superceeded.

Funny that - just had a brochure in the post yesterday from Farnells (bought our D3 there) and it mentions the Allegiance discount (and free MOT with a service).

All LRs over 3 years qualify for the Alligence loyalty scheme. 15% (ISTR) off parts & labour plus free MOT (as got couple of weeks ago). Unfortunately stealers are often backwards at coming forward so you have to ask. 15% + free MOT is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick!

So is it just 15% off if you are having them service it? or if you walk in for parts too?

No AFAIK walk in for parts as well, as I did for the battery.
