Thanks! And a fellow Audi owner as well I see…love my A3, Sportback with 3.2 V6 with DSG - goes like stink and can squeeze amazing amounts of stuff into such a small car. However, I got tired of squeezing and even with Quattro it's just rubbish in the snow.

welcome
you'll be more than thrilled with D3 in winter on good rubber
get yaself Pirelli ATR's (super durable awesome in snow and slush tested on 1500 mile road trip last winter) or set of new grabber AT's (apparently superb as well)
rest will come in time lol

Yes, I am becoming disturbingly familiar with large fat knobbly tyre options currently. Quite fancy those AT2s. See? It's started already.
Luckily, I have a second set of winter rims and tyres (pretty standard in Switzerland) with Blizzaks on them which will see me through just about any conditions here…hated driving my Audi in the snow. Curiously looking forward to it in the Disco!
Right. Now I'm off to read about megaflushing, blanking and snorkels.

I had a set of AT 2's on my D2 and REALLY liked them. I know its a converstion for another time but I will take my ATR's off at some stage on replace with BFG's or AT's......not sure which one though.... ATR's seem OK in the sand and good on the rough stuff....not much snow in Cape Town 2007 TDV6 HSE

I wouldn't put AT2s on it. They apparently have been discontinued and you'll struggle to find spares. People do rave about the new AT though. You can expect to lose a couple of mpg though.VIN: A175A328***

Grabber is such a good name for a tyre…!
I have the standard (here at least) Wranglers on at the mo, looks like they have plenty of life left in them (sadly? ).
