This is from an article regarding a crankshaft failure in ZA, maybe I assumed JLR had taken over from Ford. Sorry, my mistake
Quote:
Land Rover South Africa said it was aware of the issue experienced by Birbeck.
Spokeswoman Nicola Clarke sas: “Customer safety and satisfaction is our number one priority, so it is unfortunate when instances such as this affect owners of Land Rover vehicles.
“The issue affects only 1.3 percent of Land Rover engines sold in South Africa over the past 10 years,” she said.
“Changes have been made at a production level and all new engines manufactured since 2012 use a new bearing design. Dealers have been briefed on the procedure for any engine that experiences this issue.
“While it’s not possible to establish whether an engine is susceptible, the cause was identified – as detailed in the TOPIx report.”

Whilst a PITA at least it happened within the manufacturers warranty so no financial hit
My warranty has just expired and I've only covered 30k, but stories like this just make we want to head to the WBAC car web site and get paid a pittance for it before it comes little more than scrap value
Which for a 3 year old car costing upwards of £55k when new and having covered only 30k miles is a sad reflection on Land Rover.
Small percentage or not it is rather worrying Discovery 4 HSE

I had to sell my my15 D4 to help fund a house move, now drive a FL2 and to be honest, no more crank worries.
My D4 didn't have full LR services, so I doubt LR would have helped me, mileage was 55kIggy/Ieuan

No news on my Car yet as they have not even looked at it but I'm grinning rather as they have finally got me out of the L200 Pick Up and given me a brand new Range Rover Autobiography which I'm quite happy with a the moment, the seat massage is brilliant...
