| New to forum disco 3 torque converter issue |

Afternoon all, firstly I'm new to forums so be gentle please.
I have a 58 reg disco 3 with 105k on clock. It's now developed a vibration under slight accerlation. I'm suspecting the torque converter. My vin does come under the LR bulitin for stator fault. The car had a gearbox filter change at 79k and a torque converter changed at 81k by an LR dealer. However over the last couple of months the car has started to vibrate between 1500-2000rpm. Last weekend I had a gearbox flush and dr tranny added. The noise has slight changed pitch but is still vibrating. I'm after some advise. Due to the history and it fits in the vin range for the stator. Would a full gearbox rebuild and new torque converter be recommended or would another T/C to be fitted. Thanks

A new box. There are other problems that manifest themselves as TC issues eventually but are more fundamental. Speak to Bristol Transmissions.

Hi. I heard Bristol transmissions are good but I was after someone nearer as I use the car for work. The car only gets worked on by my local specialist however they only use genuine parts and this would make the repair to extensive. Does anyone know of a local repairer around the midlands. I've heard VMTP at Cannock are good?

I have the same sort of issue on a 56 plate and am having the same thoughts now that this truck is my only form of transport.
I’m taking mine to Town and Country 4x4 in Leamington Spa to have it looked over.
It’s about 30-40 minutes from where you are.

Hi yes it’s had a new rear prop fitted. And a new t/c fitted only 25k ago by a dealer. I do tow a caravan a couple of times a year down the m5 to Devon and it’s had two filters and flushes one then and one just with dr tranny added but the vibration still there. Can’t understand why it should have took another t/c

I had a new torque converter fitted at 99,000 miles. 2 years later at 125,000 the gearbox was diagnosed as  so I had it rebuilt with a new torque converter. I think sometimes if a t/c goes there may be debris left circulating that causes more problems. I had my box rebuilt by Specialised Transmission Services in Southampton. Nick

Hi I think you could be right. The car had a full service with all belts and oils including a transmission filter and oil change at 79k. It then had a t/c fitted at 80k at a landrover dealer. But checking the invoice there was never another oil flush or filter changed so it could have left particals in the box this be an expensive 2k plus repair

THe LR dealer would have got all oil out and fitted clean though.
I would have thought it would have had a new sump/filter too.

+1 for Bristol transmissions.
But if you want to use your local guy, Genuine Landrover boxes aren’t too dear.

Thanks for the advise. Ive found a company that only works on auto transmissions at Sutton Coldfield called VMTP they know all about the issues with the box and are a ZF centre. They also supply a courtesy car.
If you see there web site they also come recommended by Car SOS.
Has anyone had any dealings with them. they also recon torques converters in house.

Not sure where you are but took mine to Keighley for a new TC replacement. They take yours out and swap for a re con. Circa £500 ish. Many have done the same on here and they know their stuff James favourite hobby is writing in the third person.
