New lower steering column 😎

Fitted a new genuine lower steering column yesterday as swimbo really couldn’t get in with the car and to be fair she made me feel sick when she was driving but I felt it was ok, the lower steering column was the only part of the steering and suspension that I hadn’t changed so yesterday I bit the bullet, the old one looked ok but the difference in “feel” was amazing as it’s my daily driver I must have got used to it but now pin sharp and all done in under 30mins

Quite simple really car on ramps, sump guard off undo lower steering column bolt from steering rack, then working from the top using a min 300mm socket extension undo and remove bolt holding the top of the lower column.

Get back underneath remove column from the rack then pull down to remove from the upper column, you will need to remove the black plastic guard just under the inter cooler to allow the column to be removed through.

Then pull the new one to its full length working from underneath and looking through with A torch highlighting the upper column push the new one upwards until it locates on the upper you may need to reach up and help it (can’t really explain you just need to find a way to get your other arm in) once located then go above and fit the new bolt, back underneath re fit to steering rack and attach bolt, replace sump guard and drive off ramps.

All done in under 30mins I’ve had the sump guard off so many times it’s a doddle so there it is

When you say new bolt, which part number it represents ? My local dealer says that there is no Part number for those particular bolts and I would have to re use the old ones.

Seems to be the trend... when I was reading older threads here, almost all prices mentioned were significantly lower for D3/D4 than what they are today. Big Cry

Anything that is not current production usually sees a price hike as the purchasing is via LR parts rather than at production prices.
