New Sat Nav Disc and Phone Book

I've just fitted the latest Sat Nav DVD to my friends D3 (thanks again The Large One Thumbs Up ) and all is OK except that the existing phone book has been cleared from the D3. Is there any explainable reason for this, or has he got a problem? The surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us yet.
