How difficult is it to replace steering rack on d3 2.7 v6 diesel 2008
Tried the search function but can't get it to work

Is it deffo the steering rack, do you have rotational play at the steering wheel?

Had new ball joint arms on both sides
Can't keep the thing in a straight line
When coming from a corner it seems to swap though the steering
All bushings and the likes are fine

I should have added,
do you have rotational play at the steering wheel, when the vehicle is stationary?
Say 5 - 10 degrees?

I would not condemn the rack without some evidence.

Jack it up and see if you can rock the wheel back and forth in line with tie rod ends as the inner joints maybe gone so the arms (tie rods complete) need replacing.

Are you sure it isn't the lower steering column? even slight play will cause the issues you describe - replace it with a genuine LR part not any other OEM. D4 2014

 Also check the stud that clamps the upper column to the lower is tight.
If 4 wheel alignment is out or the front tyres are low on tread depth can make a tremendous difference in handling, unusual for it to be the rack.
With the engine running hold the steering wheel with fore finger and thumb and gently rock the wheel, the amount of movement should be very little 3-4mm maximum , any more and you have worn components any less it is tyres or alignment or worn rear bushes. It can when others can't,

Had it all checked out at a independent land rover garage
All he. Said he could find was a cloning coming from the rack.
If it was the lower steering shaft wouldn't the steering be tight
It's quite the opposite of tight
Feels like I'm driving with 100psi in the front tyers

If the rack is clonking it’s the rack, the bottom uj usually does go slightly tight but better described a lumpy, the connector or slack stud causes wandering. It can when others can't,

On my D3 I had a clunking noise when going over certain bumps, a little bit of play in the steering too... turned out to be the lower steering column, replaced with a LR original part and all good, get them to check the amount of play in the lower column... I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

Doesn't the steering column contain a rubber sleeved section that allows it to extend or shorten for suspension movement?
If that is true, rubber hardens and shrinks as it ages. It would make sense that steering slack could come from there.
Mine acts strange. At normal height the steering wheel is straight, at raised height it's off to the right at 2 o'clock?!
