What utter tripe - it's an easy bandwagon for these journalists to jump on.
How fair is this on owners of older Land Rovers (post 1972) who will now have to pay and extra £50 road tax for keeping an old vehicle running (especially as a working vehicle) when most other vehicles of that era are long gone?
But of course, the townies who come up with these new rules don't consider the harm done and people inconvenienced, as long as the chattering classes are happy
It's unworkable to introduce this without affecting someone who it isn't intentionally meant to. It's meant to socially embarrass and punish those who buy 4x4s as family vehicles (with very often good reasons - safety being number one) but it will hit those who use them as working vehicles hardest.

I hope that Clarkson has a suitable reposte for this sort of government
I suppose he never travels by air and all his goods are purchased from sustainable sources and powered by 'green' fuels.
Still, if he does drive a prius, he is brave and tight fisted. And the trees near his house must get a lot of 'love'.

Just typical of the loony left yogurt knitting, pipe smoking, sandal & corduroy trouser wearing PC brigade !!!!
I had heard that anybody with a TDV6 manual should just escape this £50.00 extra charge as the CO emission level is 249. Any emission level above 250 will apparently be liable to this extra charge.
Why do these PC always pick on the likes of Land Rover ... I mean why not look at what the likes of Bentley, Aston Martin, Ferrari and Lamborghini (to name but a few) are doing to the environment !!!!

I hope all the four wheel drive saloon cars will get stung too... they are 4x4's of course. What will the definition be ?
Will it by weight ?
By CO2 ?
By Size ?
By Seats
How can the Bliar government single out one class of vehicle (thats hard to define unless they get really detailed in the definitions) for this ?
BUSTARDS if they announce this...
Also I heard it would apply to city registered vehicles only ???

Right from now on I'm not going into Chelsea to fix the leaking water sprinkler tanks that have emptied their contents all over the basements of their buildings. all the anti 4x4ers may you all burn in hell when your sprinkler systems fail to work.
Oh and next time I get called out to fix the tanks at the paper mills and printing works that feed this tabloid I’m going to add an extra 0 to the bill to cover my costs.
:censored:ing dumb how do they expect us to respond so fast to their demands to get the publishing wheels back in motion.
I challenge Ross Clark to come with me for 1 day and at the end of that day to tell me that I do not NEED a 4x4. At the very least I ask him to bring his car here to me and see if we can fit the equipment I require for my job, into his non 4x4.

After reading the BBC News site...
"The Treasury is understood to be considering proposals from the RAC for a new £200 top rate of vehicle excise duty, to cover cars that produce more than 250g of carbon dioxide per kilometre."
So if true then all those prats in their raz machines, limos, hot hatches, big bimmers and mercs etc etc will be hit.
Us with 249g/km will not
But I suppose Bliar will peg us in there too as we are BAD PEOPLE
