I like it, the steering is light, nice view of the road but rear visibility is, well, non existent so would benefit from rear camera, also wing mirrors could do with being a bit bigger but view is okay. No split tailgate Laughing single piece but very low so easy for the dogs to get in and a fine height for a sit down with plenty of shelter under the tailgate which has enough height to stand under (I'm 5,9). It's comfortable to drive, almost car like and relatively nippy, this one is the 114CDI which I think is either the entry level or mid range power option sounds a bit gruff but I suppose it is a van. This one is Extra Long, but available in Compact or Long, and Pro or Select spec the latter adding colour coding to the bumpers and 16" alloys amongst other things. Worth a look for any one that wants a practical family load lugger at a fraction of the cost of a D4 or D5.

It goes back to Arnold Clark tomorrow Sad

Ive just been to New York, I managed to go to a Tesla garage whilst there, yes its not a 4x4 but I absolutely love the new model x, Im going to go over to a dealer here this week and see what they offer me for a deal on one when they arrive next year.

I saw the D5 earlier this month and really liked it and i would buy one if i could get a good deal, somehow though I don't think I'll get one as the dealerships are pathetic when it comes to customer retention

I feel really sorry for those wanting & needing to buy a D5.....reading all the posts up to the first pictures, then the glimpse at the real thing....they are having to come to terms with aspiring to own what will be a flawed model design for J/LR.....I realise they need thier ego's boosting by others oooohing & aaaaaring about how nice it is....& the fact it's clearly not.....must be dissapointing to say the least.

Wow, what a load of hog wash.
A lot of the people buying this will do so because it does what they want/need. Sure, some will buy it for the image just as with the Defender, but many will not.
The D5 doesn't meet your needs or subjective preferences e.g. looks. Fine, buy something else. Don't, however, insult people just because they like the D5 or because it actually meets their needs.
The 4x4 market is full of choice - if LR don't build what you want then go somewhere else. It's quite simple.

HOGWASH ?

However it's my opinion of what I see.....you have yours......I have mine
I will buy what I want or need to buy what I want or need to buy it.....& fundamentally it will be my decision that won't have anything to do with what others think.....my needs in a a 4x4 SUV are all about what it actually does...for me & the way I want to use it.
I said "function dictates form".....that's why LandRovers & many other 4x4's are the shape they are rectangular, boxy as opposed to a flowing not boxy not rectangular shape.
The "function dictates form" norm in product design in this case has been juxtaposed......form will dictate the restrictions functions...for some
This time a fact not an opinion.

I like many others have the freedom to buy what I want whether it be Jaguar / LandRover or whatever make we believe in as good.....believe it or not so do you.
Fundamentally, I by saying I don't like the D5 (like many others) isn't insuring anybody....... in some cases they need others to fawn & drool over the design reality of what they have on order or actually bought.........not my opinion again the facts are I really do feel sorry for them.

I don't feel the need to buy one just because "it's new" & I don't want to an "early adopter", plus a fact that I gain zero credo by not just not buying one but importantly not actually wanting one & won't feel as though I'm losing out.

There's a huge difference between "wants" & "needs"

RRSTDV8.....if you've bought or ordered a D5..... best of luck with it & hope it fulfils all you need in a vehicle.

Good lord no. Buying new cars is a mugs game in my opinion. The depreciation alone makes me weep!

I saw a number of D5s at Eastnor yesterday. You can see a family resemblance between the DS and D5 which isn't surprising. What did surprise me is I think this overall design works ok on the DS but doesn't scale to the bigger D5. The rear end of the D5, in particular, doesn't work for me.

What was also interesting was JLR were using Eastnor for a video shoot while I was there. There were constant radio messages saying where the shoot was as they didn't want any LRE vehicles in shot as they were driving a Q7, ML and XC90 round the track to create footage of the D5 v. its competitors. Not sure how they will use that footage in publicity, maybe more for their research engineers.

That last shot's interesting. When I park my Disco 4 next to my colleague's Disco Sport, it dwarfs it! Here' there's little in it.

Anyone that doesn't know their Land Rovers would struggle to tell these apart.

I got "told off" when I parked up the LRE D4 at Eastnor and didn't put it in access mode. Ok, not told off, just asked to press the button. They seemed a bit militant about ensuring all cars were in access mode.

Those shots definitely don't do the size of the d5 justice. I park next to a DS regularly and always park in offroad height, the D4 dwarfs the DS from the rear I'm sure the D5 would too in normal height and viewed straight on from the rear.

I virtually always park the D4 as access height and there's still a huge difference in height. I'm not sure that the D5 does dip much lower, as the D4 only has large wheels to hunker down on to, while the D5's wheels are pointlessly huge Shocked

I've just taken you up on that Russell and put both brochures side by side on the screen. What I have learned is that:

1. On a like for like basis, the height has been reduced from 1,920 mm (D4) to 1,888 mm (D5).

2. The ride height on the D4 will drop by 50 mm in access mode, but I can't find a figure in the spec sheets for the D5.

3. While much has been made of it's improved off road capability, including an increase in its maximum ground clearance, the maximum clearance has "increased" from 310 mm (D4) to 283 mm (D5)! Confused

The D5 can drop the rear of the car by 60mm, I think the normal access mode is 40mm ?
