Hi, I am new to this so please excuse if this topic has been covered numerous times already!
My 2006 D3 HSE seems to have developed a fault. Today driving on the motorway turning on the headlights has kicked off the cruise control and the automatic gearbox stopped working. The other day on a country road it also lowered the suspension as well as stopped the gearbox working.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to the fault and how to fix it please?

Start by having the codes read. Preferably with a Land Rover specific diagnostic tool like IID (I know there are many others but I’m mostly familiar with this one and JLR SDD).

Need to pull the carpet up on the front passenger side.
See if it’s wet. And dry out
Look at the wiring along the side.
The joins or splices in tape may need redoing.

Worth checking the brake lights and side lights at the rear of the car. There can be an issue if one of the elements blow and fall across the other within the stop/tail bulb, it can produce a transmission fault even though there is nothing actually wrong with the transmission, a quick simple fix if it is this and worth a look before delving any deeper.

Thanks Bungle, I had done a bit of googling and found something similar had happened to someone on another forum. I checked this morning and found one of the stop/tail lights was broken. If I put the lights on it worked fine but if I then pressed the brake the light actually got darker rather than brighter. I've now changed the bulb and having looked at the filament in it you are exactly right, where the filament had melted parted of it had fused to the other filament.
Can't believe something so simple could cause such major error messages and faults!

In the very early days of the D3 it led to some dealers changing gearboxes under guarantee, of course as part of their "giving it a once over" they spotted the brake light failure on the way out of the workshop so would change that as well, not sure how many were changed before someone realised.......

Yeah, I had once the BLS fail on me while driving and it almost gave me a heart attack. Pretty much every warning light went on and the LCD display scrolled through a multitude of error messages starting with transmission fault. Read codes, swap the BLS (I checked rear lights first) and everything was normal again. Now my rear lights are D4 LEDs, I think one problem less.
