Been with privelege for about 5 years now, ok no off road cover but they give both myself and partner business cover as standard plus they are fine about her owning the car and it being my NCB.

I had the postcode problem, when I asked for a quote, they said they only cover rural areas and my Coventry postcode prevented me from being insured with them, I tried to explain I live in warwickshire and it's very rural, in fact It's 90ft away from open farm land and 5 miles form warwick the heart of warwickshire etc.
They still said no, I explained we have CV postcode because thats where the sorting office used to be, still NO Evil or Very Mad

& the winner is.................

Key Worker Insure

Nope, I've never heard of them either, but with the number of serving & ex MOD on here, & transport guys, It may well be worth a punt.

Any one got any experience of them, good or bad?

Never heard of them before, but looking at their web site they have a whole "ten years of experience" - is that a lot?

Have a look at their terms of business, especially their charges and fees. Cheap premiums are fine at the start until you are faced with a bill of £50 when you ask for a replacement car to be insured but then cancel it before it takes effect.

I can only suggest purchase from a name you have heard of, or locally so you can resolve any problems face to face.

Thanks for the warning Brian,

I’ve decided to risk it, so time will tell. Rolling Eyes

Apparently I’m underwritten by Prestige, who when Googled, could be anybody from Bury, Northern Ireland, Or Cwmbran, That was just the 1st three I looked at! & they all appeared to have been formed around 1997/8

Reading through some of the attached bumf, it would appear I am under Octane??

Thank you for choosing Octane Underwriting Limited for your Motor Insurance.
Octane Underwriting Limited is an appointed representative of Prestige Underwriting Services Limited

Your more than welcome to read some or all of it, probably make more sense to you than it did to me anyway!
Let me know, I can either mail you it, or drop you a copy at your office.

Phil

I have also had a recent experience with NFU

Couldn't get through on the National number so tried my local branch, funnily enough in Coventry (CV postcode) round the corner from where I work.

Their price was 679, Aviva renewal was 399 ............. eventually insured with IAM Surety for 379

NFU were happy to insure me, but perhaps my LE postcode is more "rural" than CV !!!!!!

Rik

Are the excess and no claim discount benefits the same if involved with an uninsured driver?

Did you check the fees charged by IAM Surety for any changes during the year?

Just had my renewal quote from NFU and it's up by 50%. That's on top of last year's increase of 25%. Grand total now in excess of £650. My wife is with Privilege so phoned them and they quoted £274.50 and because I am going with them, they have discounted my wife's cover by 10% (due the same time). NFU won't even haggle ovee a few quid so I'm sure that they won't drop nearly£400 to retain my business. Both vehicles with Privilege £100 cheaper than NFU for one!

I know that NFU do Gap Insurance for the first two years of a new car but ringing around, 12 months Gap Insurance is around £130 for my particular circumstance, plus my two years runs out in eight months. So I think that NFU are either taking the juice or trying to dump their autocover business in not too subtle a manner. I live out in the sticks so it's classed as rural.

I support the sentiments of earlier posters on this subject. NFU can revolve on the Magic Roundabout.

Bill - take care. Some GAP policies have to be purchased within a certain time period of purchasing the car.
