Well - Fitted the new lamps a week ago (4 of) I must say that I am a bit disappointed with the "extra" light output!! Seems to have made little or no difference - Wouldn't repeat the exercise if I had to do it over.

That's odd, did you put one bul in first and then look at the difference. To be honest when I have fitted them on various cars the difference is instant.

No - Changed all the bulbs together - If I was pushed the lights might seem a little 'whiter' but not the wow factor you experienced.

Well - A little under 3 months ago I fitted the Osram Nightbreakers - True to form, judging by other posts, both low beams failed within a day of each other (Tuesday and Wednesday )
On the plus side whilst swapping out the bulbs I thought I would try the FBH reset by removing the fuse for 10 Minutes. Imagine my surprise when I realised the fuse had blown - Quickly replaced it Fired the old girl up and Fay Presto FBH fires up. Every cloud as they say.........................

Copy of an email from the DfT. I have cut out the boring parts at the beginning, just to keep it short ans sweet
Quote:
1. be type approved to ECE Regulation 98 as a component.
2. when fitted to the vehicle should enable ECE Regulation 48 to be complied with (although no government inspection will take place).
3, Comply with RVLR as far as "use" is concerned.
In practice this means:
1. The headlamp unit (outer lens, reflector, bulb) shall be type approved to ECE 98 and be "e-marked" to demonstrate this. That can only be done by the headlamp supplier - Hella, Valeo etc. who must test the headlamp in an independent laboratory.
2. Once fitted to the vehicle it must have headlamp cleaning and self-levelling (which can be for the headlamp or can be in the vehicle suspension - some expensive estate cars have "self-levelling suspension" and that is adequate). Also the dipped beam must stay on with the main beam.
3. The headlamp must be maintained in good working order, kept clean, and aligned/adjusted correctly like any other headlamp.
Have you fitted any one yours?

Sorry they are illegal as the E Type mark for the lense also includes a approval for lamp type. The D3 halogen lights are type marked ONLY for incandescent bulbs, xenon lenses have a different type mark and are approved for gas discharge. Therefore the type mark is invalid the minute you use a different light source.
I worked on the development of the first xenon's for BMW

Surely that's the D3 out then?
All I really wanted was a little brighter/Whiter light that lasted longer than 3 months.....
