No rubber mats - temporary solutions?

We have the rather thin and unprotecting carpet mats in the D3, as it is rarely ever used in off-tarmac terrains and so the carpet adds to a sense of luxury where we don't really need rubber.

They've even got a chewing gum stain embroidered into them Rolling Eyes

But for the Tong off road day in Sept, I've gathered from other pictures that it can be a muddy place, and so I reckon the carpet mats would get pretty destroyed (in other words, nobody would be bothered cleaning the dirt off them!) but we dont see much point in buying rubber mats given that they would rarely ever be used.

Has anyone ever had this problem and come up with some engenius temporary solutions to keep the interior tip top?! I thought perhaps wrapping the mats in bin liners but I bet they'd still get trodden through.

Where can I find some spare rubber to mold into temporary interior mats? Shocked

Hows about use the real mats as templates to cut some temporary (ie throwaway) ones from some carpet offcuts? (or thick bits of cardboard?)

Or just be brave, get the real mats muddy & then pressure wash them.

I'm more worried about grinding mud into the leather - so planning to get a pair of the 'emergency' seat covers (ISTR they're about £12 ea)

I got some rubber sheeting and cut a template, they cover a better area than OEM mats. They are black and never come out except on very posh occasions. Put smooth serface up and I just brush out the dirt. Very Happy
will post pictures when I get back.
