noise on acceleration, engine system failure |
|
Hi all,
over the last couple of weeks , noticed a screech as acceleration under load.
engine seems not as powerful , now engine system failure flashing up on screen.
in my workshop, jacked up and wheel off, heat shields off, very dirty oily turbo!
steamcleaned area and oil pipe going into turbo was mucked up the worst.
my question, can I undo the pipe and inject some oil inside, then build up and run engine.
maybe add two stroke oil to tank and run, hoping the bearing will be lubricated enough to save the turbo?

You will almost certainly find one of your intercooler pipes has split and as you put down the power the boost builds and forces its way out of the split, this is what gives you the screech, think ol fashioned kettle when it boils it whistles, its exactly the same.
If you search on here theres some good pics, the long fat pipe on the drivers side is the most common and easiest to change, the split can sometimes be difficlut to see.

Thanks , I have removed the cover on the drivers side to inspect the intercooler pipe, it looks ok and is dry.
but all around the turbo there is oil, some of itwas caked on the oil supply pipe, so I am airing towards the turbo. When engine res are high there is exhaust smoke around turbo aswell.

Ah in that case you need to search crossover pipe, again plenty of info out there.
Have you had the gearbox out recently?

Hi, no not had gearbox out, had a flushout a year ago.
it could be one of the small pipes near the turbo.
I have taken the big pipe off the drivers side intercooler. Noticed a very small pin hole, so will replace that.
if the turbo is struggling to blow the gases out, maybe that could be the cause of the back pressure.
I will give her an oil change,
fit new intercooler pipe, put 500ml of two stroke oil in a full tank of fuel.
steam clean the whole engine and underneath, then run her for a while, see what happens! You never know.. she might give me a few more miles!
dont fancy takimg turbo off just yet! To busy

Replaced long intercooler pipe, still the same. But had diagnostics done and turbo seems ok. I have ordered three set of silicone intercooler hoses.
whats the procedure to replace the hoses on the turbo side?
It looks a bit of a !
