Noisy Roof Rack - a cure
I have cured the noisy roof rack. I have pop riveted a piece of neoprene 150mm or 6†deep x the width of the rack, This is fixed to the inside of the rack and held in place with a strip of hard but flexible plastic I just happened to have lying around.. Check out my pictures. This mod has eliminated 99% of the noise. In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.
Hmm another good use for Rubber
Must give it a try with my rackThe End

Goodyear Wrangler MT/R on 19" nackered rims good for at least 36000 miles, quite noisy and the road holding ok. £125.00 eachIn the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.
Hey Big Fish, nice to see you on here. Sometimes see you on the Sanbanks road in the morning after you've pulled out from your place. Mine's the blue one with the snorkel and butchered expo rack. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Noisy Roof Rack
Thanks for update on Neoprene/ Rubber skirt. Looking to find one the right size. Wife is looking on slightly dubiously!!! Any suggestions as to what size I should try?
2-3mm thick possibly?
Once I have the Roof Rack done, (mind you that could take some time, after two years, c/w nose cowling, then cowling removed, now reinstalled, now with Ally base and awaiting skirt) I will be looking for a raised air intake. Realise I have missed various group buys, where is the latest recommended source or is there a current group buy being planned. I can't find one currently?
Cheers

Finally fitted the neoprene strip as per your instructions last weekend. Only difference is that instead of using a separate piece of plastic to sandwich the neoprene onto the rack, I drilled out the rivets holding the cowling etc onto the frame, slide the neoprene between the frame and cowling then re-revited everything together. Then I used electric tape to seal the edge onto the roof - should prevent movement and therefore reduce scratching of the paintwork to a minimum.
Fantastic! - no more noise from the rack - that's going to make the drive to Sweden next month a darn sight more pleasant. Thanks Chap, I owe you a pint, or several, the next time we meet
Pictures for those who are interested:
LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.
